*This will be updated as final cuts continue* As team's start making hefty cuts to get to a 53-man roster, there are potential diamonds in the rough that get thrown out in the mass snippings, or there might just be a solid player that could contribute on another team such as the Jets. Only a few teams have really started their final cuts, but so far there are some players that I think would be interesting at the least in Green and White. **1) Rudi Johnson, RB. Released by: Bengals Johnson didn't show up last season and was cut due to being outperformed in the Cincy backfield by Perry and Watson. Johnson is in really good shape physically while his proneness to injuries still does hang a dark cloud over his head. If Johnson can stay healthy he could be a welcome addition to the Jets backfield which lacks a power runner. *2) Lance Legget, WR. Released by: Browns Legget was my favorite potential late round steal heading into the 2008 NFL Draft and when he went undrafted all I could do was hope (to no avail) that the Jets FO would sign him. Legget was the crown jewel at WR of his college recruiting class and was supposed to be Miami's next great WR. However, during his tenure at Miami that QB situation was never solidified (more accurately described as atrocious) which never allowed Legget or any other Miami WR to flourish. Legget is 6'4, weighs in at 192 lbs, and runs a 4.3 40. If you are a draft nut like myself and have seen his scouting report or have watched him play you would know that he has great hands. While you could argue WR isn't the greatest need of the JETS right now I still think Legget is worth signing not only for his tremendous potential but Clowney being out also makes it all the more appealing. Legget is the definition of a diamond in the rough. He may not and probably will not make an immediate impact if signed because he would have to adjust to a complex play book and learning the routes, but if any QB could make Legget into a real WR it's Brett Favre. 3) Henry Smith, NT. Released by: Rams Smith is 6'3 and 315 lbs. Like Legget he is a rookie. Smith's role would be solely as depth at the NT spot. 4) Chase Ortiz, ILB/OLB. Released by: Browns Ortiz was a good college DE at TCU with Tommy Blake but at 6'3, 255 he is too small to play DE in the NFL. However, Ortiz was an inside linebacker in high school where he earned a lot of awards and accolades. I'm not that gung-ho on Ortiz as a Jet, but because he played inside 'backer in high school and DE in college he could be depth at both ILB and OLB in the 3-4 defense. 5) Darius Walker, RB. Released by: Texans Walker was certainly an above average RB at Notre Dame and averaged 4.6 yards per carry as a Texan last year. If the Jets don't sign Rudi Johnson then this would make sense with Musa Smith gone. Walker is an all-around back who can catch out of the backfield and has good speed. You can never have enough depth at RB. Feel free to add players that are cut that you find interesting to this thread, whether they are just good players or you would like to see them in Green and White does not matter. I will post more players as more teams get going with final roster cuts. **=very important, must sign *=important, should sign no star=good/interesting player but not a definite need on the Jets
I mentioned this in another thread..but...if the price is right, Rudi has to get a look....if you forget about his injury riddled season last year....the guy is a 1300 yard, 12 TD a season back. He's an excellent "between-the-tackles" type runner.....if Thomas Jones doesn't improve...I think Rudi would compliment Neon Leon perfectly.
On a side note, I drafted Chris Perry for my fantasy team this morning in the eighth round. Yahtzeeeee!
Bengals | Anderson released Sat, 30 Aug 2008 13:45:52 -0700 Mark Curnutte, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals have released OT Willie Anderson. The team wanted Anderson to take a pay cut, but he would not take the cut.
woody was benched due to his RG play. I like moore at RG over Woody. Moore is the forgotten player on this team. He does enough to not get slandered, but not enough to earn praise. Each team needs that one guy.
Not that we need another TE but I like the kid cut by Kansas City, Michael Allen. He's a small college guy with NFL size (6-6, 254). He's had a year in an NFL training program to get stronger and get used to the better competition. And he's been able to watch one of the best TE in the game, Tony Gonzalez. For a team that needs a pass catching TE, I think Whitworth would be a nice developmental prospect.
For what it's worth, Tannenbaum tagged Woody as the best surprise in camp among all the free agents they signed during that game interview the other night.
Starks is one of the few personnel decisions Pittsburgh has flubbed recently. By all accounts he looks horrible this summer. Yet he's getting a transition tag paycheck. For another 500K or so they could have retained Faneca. I'm sure the team is regretting that decision.
I like Woody where he is, but the response I gave was to Woody going back to RG. I want to keep him where he is. I haven't been comfortable with a Jets O-line since 2004.
....... Are you kidding me, i watched this guy for four years in person, the guy is a joke, he does not fight for the ball, he has no desire to come up and get the ball. In miami he was terrible, any time a corner got physical with him he folded and usually dropped or saw the ball get intercepted. he is not a mangini guy. We have 7 receivers and even the receivers we cut are better than this guy
