How does a team go from looking like one of the best in the NFL, to looking like the worst, in a matter of 5 weeks?
One look at your moniker, even an Einstein can go from a genius to a blithering buffoon in no time flat, so why shouldn't the Jets, lol!
The offense stopped clicking because Favre fell apart. When you go 3 and out every time it starts to wear on your defense. That's why everything went to hell all at once. I blame the offense (BRETT FUCKING FAVRE). The collapse of the defense was an effect rather than a cause.
It's called momentum, and it goes both ways. The Giants looked like dog doodoo in the first half of last year, and look what happened.
I've been pondering this the last few weeks. Earlier in the year the Jets were finding ways to win games (except the Raider game) and played spirited. Somehow that got lost in the rain in the Denver game and never was found again. Other than a few flashes here and there, they just played like a team playing out the string on the season. No one stepped up & carried this team, and as bad as they played down the stretch, they still were in every game and could have one every one except maybe the Denver game. It's easy to put the blame on Favre and Mangini as yes they needed to be the leaders, but there was enough blame to go around. Lots of dropped balls by the receivers and how many dropped easy interceptions (Ty Law last week, Eric Barton this week), horrible penalties that killed momentum (maybe none bigger than the one that brought Leon's kickoff return back and the delay of game on the field game, today's one that brought back the INT). The list goes on and on. Did they believe the hype at 8-3 looking at what was left on the schedule being favored every game?
I think the Bucs fell harder than we did. Cowboys fell hard too. The Broncos if they lose today too will have fallen pretty hard too.
EM cut J-mil and that set off a spiritual timebomb that exploded in his fat face. Or, maybe something else.
This is a point people tend to miss. When the season is this short, it's easy for a slump to turn into a collapse (and by the same token, a few great games makes you look like world-beaters). The Jets are one of four teams that seem to have completely collapsed, but how much of it is that the four slumped at the wrong time and didn't have a chance to get out of it? We'll never know. None of which ultimately matters - shitting the bed 5 straight games when you're 8-3 is just unacceptable in the NFL. That's the way it is.
The jets are a good team, just sometimes you don't get the bounces. The jets defense just wore out, one thing I noticed is that the jets always ran on first down and most of the time they got stopped after 2 or 3 yards, you guys never had any big runs. The Gunslinger kept you in the game, but the bottom line is the dolphins ran the ball and stopped the run, Favre did his best but he was working from third and long most of the time. Fave didn't lose the game, it was Miami's defense stopping the jets run and the jets not stopping Miami's running game.
