If Pennington isn't healthy by the start of the season, the Jets have an excellent insurance policy in Brooks Bollinger. While a lot of people in the media continue to sell Bollinger short, all Mangini needs to do is pop in a tape of the Miami, San Diego, Atlanta, Buffalo or Oakland games from last year and he will see a more than capable NFL quarterback. And let's not forget, the Jets' offensive line looks like a mess right now, and Bollinger is an excellent scrambler, so his mobility is just what the Jets need at the quarterback spot. He's got a good point, Bollinger is an excellent scrambler. Anyone who saw him evade Jason Taylor all game knows that....
Bollinger isn't THAT bad. Of course we didn't win with him, but he held his own towards the end of the year, and did look great in the last few games. I wouldn't want him starting at all, but I agree that he's a good bet as a second stringer...
Leberfield is not a journalist. He is the worst Jets beat writer there is. Every single one of his columns are just his opinion and/or propaganda to support whatever his agenda is this week. The man is incapable of writing an objective article. His articles are usually filled with assumptions that he has made up and wholly lacking any journalistic integrity. Leberfield is a constant reminder of yellow journalism and its effect of dumbing down the American intellect. While he might have some valid points about Bollinger and I really love Bollinger's competitveness its hard to take anything Leberfield said seriously.
i hate miami fans. when you can beat the jets more than 2 or 3 times in 10 years you can talk about f- face taylor. remember when crybaby said '' they're not commin back from this one'' what a dick he is.
I actually think Bollinger is decent. He is not starter material, but definitely a serviceable backup. Bollinger showed alot of maturation from game to game last season. If he could actually get more than 2 seconds to throw the ball and wasn't on his back after every play, he could prove to be pretty decent.
Yeah, I don't think Bollywood gets any credit for playing on one of the worst teams last year. We had ZERO Running game. Our defense couldn't get off the field. Our blocking was atrocious. Our special teams turned it over more times than our punt return average. The fact that he won a few games and almost beat some contenders shows he has something in the tank.
I agree with Leberfield in this case. Bollinger deserves at least a shot at competing for the starting job. No, I don't think he'd win it over a round 1 or round 2 rookie, and Chad might even beat him out this year, but he deserves a chance. He took a beating this year and hung in there and played with heart, and there is something to be said for that..
brooks Bollinger did play pretty decent when he was in there last year, he actually threw the longball pretty well and would serve well as a backup, i could never imagine going into the season as him being #1
problem... Bollinger isn't a starting QB... sufficient for a back-up/spot start type a guy... but he isn't a starter. Ellis
All things considered, I didn't think that Bollinger did too bad last season. Half the time he was running for his life and the other half, the receivers were dropping the ball. He proved that he has an arm and could throw a nice deep ball (if we only had a receiver that could get under it and actually catch the damn thing) and it seemed that the more he played, the better he got. Who knows, maybe we have another Tom Brady here. Somebody who, given the chance, could become a solid starter. To simply write the kid off and not give him a chance is just wrong. Lets get his butt into training camp and see what he can do with a coaching staff that will not handcuff him. If he succeeds, GREAT. If not, oh well, we gave it a shot. The kid at the very least deserves a shot at the #1 or #2 Qb position. Lets give him a fair shot in training camp and LET THE BEST MAN WIN. At this point in the season, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Don't forget, if he stinks up training camp, we still could cut him. But lets find out what we really have here. This Coaching staff is ALL business and believe me, if they don't feel that a player is worth the roster spot, he's gone. Lets be patient and see what happens. :beer:
I can't stand leberfield either, however I have always said the Bollinger should have been given the reigns instead of Vinny. I loved Vinny when he was here, but that was a big waste when they brought him in. Bollinger should have been starting when Feidler went down. Now, do I think Bollinger could start a few games? Of course, is he our long term answer? Hell no!
I have liked BB his entire time here. I watched him play in pre-season the first couple of years, and I always said the kid has talent. Is he elite? Not by a long-shot. Could he be a good starter on the right team? I think so. Hell, the Bucs and Ravens proved you can win a SB with a decent, not even an above average QB. Unfortunately, we don't have enough tools to make Bolly a winning QB. I would definitely keep him as at least the 3rd string if we bring in a vet. If we bring in a rookie, I think he could be a legit #2 to preserve the new kid short-term.
i agree WITH HIM ON bolly! pLEASE TELL US WHICH qb WOULD HAVE PLAYED BETTER BEHIND THAT ol LAST YEAR AND WITH THE LACK OF EXPERIENCE THAT bolly FIRST HAD! I know some can not be fair minded about him because he was a 6th rd pick but still, show me any QB who would have excelled behind that OL last year! Start with CHAD!
If Bollinger is on the roster I think he will be given a chance to compete for the starting job. I don't think he'll get it, but he might surprise Mangini.
