Devito is an absolute workhorse on the Dline and is hands down the most underrated piece of our defense. People were worried about RDE after we lost Marques Douglas, but so far Vito has been better and an absolute workhorse. He takes up defenders against the pass and is ferocious against the run. In danger of sounding cliche, "he plays like a Jet."

Today he had 2 tackles for losses on top of 5 tackles, and had 7 tackles last week. He plays his heart out on every play which is exactly what you need on the dline of a 3-4. Good stuff by him.

    Leave your praise...

No, Shaun Ellis is our best DL. Ellis has been awesome so far this year....DeVito may be our 2nd best though.

Ellis is clearly the best but just because he has been nothing short of spectacular in the first 2 games. He's now, IMO, the premiere 3-4 DE in the game.

But I don't think Pouha and Vito are much worse. And with the rejuvinated Gholston in there, that's a great rotation on the line, and why the Jets have just given up 101 yards rushing in the 2 games combined for under 2 yds/carry.

3-4 is rare in the NFL, but once these players find a niche they stick around for a while.

Ellis is good but he isn't the premier 3-4 DE in the game.

Haloti Ngata, Richard Seymour .... there are a few more.

DeVito is so fucking strong, he gets great leverage against his opponent.

Ngata's in a class all his own at the moment. Seymour isn't half the player he used to be.

Ellis is a top tier 3-4 end.

Yeah he is definitely top tier but not the best.

A lot of people still think Ngata is a NT and not a DE, I don't blame them though he is a freak.

All I know is, our backups on the DLine are playing their collective asses off everytime we lose a "star".

The D-line looks like a strength so far. Love the teamwork between the three starters and Gholston being mixed in has been a plus so far.

Mike Devito has been a workhorse and does an excellent job !!!

Jets DL held the pastys to 52 yds rushing today. avg. 2.6 a carry.

This Dline just owned the LOS. It was their Los all others GTFO.

Go down the list they all had a fantastic game....

    Gholston
    Ellis
    Devito
    Pouha

Ellis, Pouha, DeVito and Gholston have all played their ass off during our 1st two games. With those 4 guys, even without Jenkins, I'm loving our D-Line rotation.

The player who deserves the most praise (In my eyes) has to be Pouha!

The 3-4 NT position is the most important position on defense when running a 3-4 defense. Without a NT, you have no 3-4 defense. Remember the Robertson days under Mangini, it was pathetic to watch.

Our defense didn't miss a beat with Pouha as our NT in replace of Jenkins last year, and now it's looking like the Jets could have one of, if not the best run defense in the league. During the next two games, we'll find out how stout out run defense really is against the Dolphins and Vikings.

Good post. Pouha has stepped up 2 years in a row in Jenks absence.

I could care less how much impact players such as Ellis, DeVito and Gholston can make as DE's, because without a NT that can do more than just 'hold his own' (Pouha), I cant see a 3-4 defense doing much of anything.

Agreed, I always shout out to Devito to give him his props when he makes a play. We need another thread like this for Pouha, i think we might have had one last year and once again hes stepping in nice for Jenkins.
