The injury to Trey Teague has me very concerned. Not only would he have been the starting center (most likely) he also has the versatility to play every position along the line. He was a great depth guy, gritty and workman like. I know reports are that it was an ankle injury, but I think it is much more serious than the front office is making it out to be.

What do we do now to add depth? And now we will need to add 2 or 3 people to fill the void, he would be able to sub in at all positions. I still have questions about AJ being able to handle the right side, and Clements is injury prone (but has the size). Just wanted to get others takes on who me might be able to sign, or if we should stand pat with our guys?

I believe he broke his ankle. It's not an ankle injury, its a broken ankle. I'm very confident with Mangold. I think we'll be fine. Mangini knows what he's doing.

I'm a bit worried also about the Jet's depth on the line. They're clearly at least one prospective player longer than last year though and I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt until I see what develops.

The biggest beneficiary of Teague's injury at the moment is Adrian Jones who would probably have gotten beat out by Teague for the right tackle job in training camp . In the long run, if Jones proves he can play at a high level (which he absolutely has not proven in his first two seasons) we might all be better off.

In my opinion we have the best o line depth weve had in a long, long time. Bsides the fact that Teague will likely be back early in the season we have a lot of versitility. I just read that Clement is currently penciled in as the starter at RT, which really surprised me. It isnt set in stone butI thought they would definantly have Jones there. I see him and Brick being a rare combo that can stop blitzes from either side. However, as many have noted, we need a mauler in the run game and Clement provides that. I must admit that I often underrate this (we saw the results for Martin after we scoffed at the loss of Becht and Mckenzie).

With that said. Jones can play either tackles spot as can Cavka. People were raving about Katnik earlier in the offseason and he has played in every interior line position. Guys like Snell, Missant, King, Nienhuis and Morley are all young guys and one of them is bound to step up. Teague will be valuable as a vet presense but I think it is really a positive that Mangold gets in there early.

As of now it is Clement who is starting over Jones. I just read it in an article today. Teague hasnt played tackle since he was with the broncos and he played the left side. He is a lot like Jones actually (not the most powerful guy in the world). He will most likely be an emergency tackle when he returns but the first guy off the bench on the interior line. Till then I can live with testing our young guys

Teague sucks and would not have been playing RT over AJ, actually in the mini camp it was Clement who was playing over AJ. Teague possibly would have started at center allowing them to slowly work Mangold in, but I rather see the kid start right away. As for depth, I agree with you we are currently thin, but I'm confident that will change....

Teague did give up like 2.5 sacks to D rob a couple of years ago and was tossed around like a rag doll. We had like 7 sacks in the game. He is a lot like Jones (not the strongest guy in the world). He would have still provided some veteran presense to the line (smarts) but Id rather Mangold establish himself.

We had a lot of threads on this when he was first signed, so I'm not going to drag up my thoughts again. With that said, it is probably not fair that I said he sucks. He could provide versatile depth for a half a game or something at this point in his career, but if he is your starting Center you are not in good shape. He is a journeyman at best...

So you'd rather have a rookie starting at C instead???....

Again, it seems we have already discussed this ad infinitum but in my opinion yes, I would rather have Mangold start at Center over Teague....

The question is now how valuable Teague is for depth. Is he better than our young guys right now? Most likely. I would still rather see the young guys in action to see what we have. Also, Teague will prob be back by week 2 so its not that big of an issue

The Bills o-line in general, might have been worse than the Jets last year and if Teague was playing C, then he would have been the double team on DRob if that is what the scheme called for.
Guards usually take on the DT for teams with a 4-3 front.
If Teague played Guard in that game, then that is different.

you act like trey teague is a pro bowler. sure it wouldve been nice to have him start at C so mangold can be brought along slowly. but it is what it is, jet fans cant say.....oh no trey teague is gone our o-line is doomed since we drafted one of the best C prospects in over a decade.

and im not saying mangold is awesome, but the dropoff between he and teague lies in the experience, which means better for mangold to take his lumps now and playt the position he was drafted to play.
