http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2010/06/04/2010-06-04_jets_cb_revis_skips_otas_while_seeking_a_new_deal.html Is there any particular reason Tanny can't work on Revis' and Mangold's deal in parallel? Everything I keep reading suggests our core guys (Brick & Harris, as well) need to be re-worked one at a time. Why not just get a ballpark offer out to Mangold's agents now, at least to get the ball rolling and make sure you're on the same page?
Probably because they are going to be huge, upwards of 50 pages in length, and extremely complicated. Congratulations to Brandon Moore.
We have so many players that need to be signed to big long term contracts....I can't see us parting with any of them either. I saw a lot of good young players leave us in the early part of last decade and I really hope we don't see that happen again.
what is all this "within reason" bullshit...sign the man and give him the money he deserves hes the best corner in football
Im glad our GM wants to sign reasonable contracts and not just give players whatever they want. This is a KEY deal for the jets future.
If Tanny followed that logic we would have like 25% of our future cap space locked up in Revis and Mangold. Good luck having a winning team with that cap situation.
Aso's contract is insane, but who has the 2nd best deal (cb) in the league? how much is it worth? I mean, considering that Aso's contract is over next year and it was signed by Davis, a reasonable "starting point" has to be somewhere in between Aso's and the 2nd best deal... so how much is worth that one?
I may be wrong but I think it could be DeAngelo Hall's 6 year 55 million dollar deal (or the 7 year 70 million deal he signed with the.....Raiders). Nate Clements signed an 8 year 80 million dollar deal.
Exactly we can't use all our cap space just for one player, if this continues for Revis just move on to Mangold and Brick and get them done, then go back to Revis, if he's truly this greedy then i'm disappointed
why dont they just make the contract very heavy in money this year ( in the uncapped year) and then scale it down in the following years so if the cap returns, they will be under it with great players. ex: revis 5yrs 2010- 25 mil 2011- 10 2012-12 2013- 14 2014- 15 etc.....this way he averages top salary but the team can handle it better
2 reasons, the first being the 30% rule, and the second being the Andre Johnson situation/precedent. The 30% rule has been explained countless times, so I won't be recapping it here. The Johnson situation is new and very scary should the Texans cave here... Johnson has 5 years left on his deal and is pissed when he realized he would only be making 6 million on his contract this season, and Brandon Marshall was making some insane momney this season. Now Johnson wants a new deal making him the highest paid WR again. If Houston caves.... a deal like the one you supposed for Revis (if it somehow gets by the 30 % rule), in two years will be obselete when some one waaay overpays for the next big stud, (or you know if the draft continues without a rookie cap) and Revis will be pissed and want another new deal in 2012. It has to get done right. We all new Revis would want the most money ever by a CB, and we all know Rex will not allow Tanny to let Revis walk. So Revis will have to be paid basically the same amount each year, or actually increase yearly....
I'm not sure why the FO would promise Revis an extension before the 2010 season starts. That sounds like bad leverage considering Revis still has 3 years on his current deal.
It cannot be stressed enough that he does NOT have 3 years left. This is the last year of his contract unless the Jets want to guarantee his entire salary for the following two years. They do not want to do that.
sorry for missing a point, but why they don't want that? I thought Revis was the one who wouldn't be glad to stay here 3 years for 21M... what's the downside on it for the team?
This. If Revis plays hardball he's going to average 7 mill a year over the next 3 years. I agree with one of the posters above in that Aso's contract should not even be in the discussion. What Crazy Al does should NEVER be in the discussion. The second highest paid CB on a long term contract should be the benchmark.
Also... I think it's crazy that we are going to invest a fortune in 1 player coming off 1 superstar season.
Tanny should get him some endorsement deals to make up for the rest. Like a Revis Snuggie, the blanket that covers you as much as Revis himself.
