Where do you think we should find our depth at RB? LaDainian Tomlinson - I personally think the guy doesn't have much left in the tank, but San Diego is an extremely pass-happy team, and our offensive line, which is, as you all know, the best in the NFL, may clear paths for him to be able to return to semi-prime form. His success in this league may be useful towards mentoring Shonn Greene and Leon Washington. I'm just not confident that he can be productive anymore, especially with his injury problems. Brian Westbrook - If any of you choose this option, you obviously didn't watch the NFL last season. This guy has had so many concussions, I pray that he chooses to retire. He's going to fucking die if he keeps playing. Draft - Pick up a rookie in the late rounds of the draft for depth and insurance. Other - Please specify.
First 2 NFW......... LT- It makes zero sense to cut TJ and then sign LT. I would rather have TJ at this point. He has much less mileage and would have been cheaper. Besides who wants a choker Charger on the Jets. Westbrook- He is one hit away from not waking up. Plus the Jets have Leon another no thank you. That leaves draft and other as the most likely way.......
I think the Jets are going to wait the 3rd RB out a while. They may draft someone, though I doubt it. I bet they wait until June 1st cuts, see what's out there, and make a selection. If LT and Westbrook are there, I see no reason why either one couldn't be the answer, at least in terms of playing the position. Sure, they're big names and on the down sides of their careers, but in limited roles behind better run blocking offensive lines, either one could be effective replacing Jones. And it's quite possible either one has trouble finding a home, and we could get them cheaper than TJ's $5.8 million. However, in the end, I think they look elsewhere for a guy who can help out on special teams. Maybe even a guy like Kevin Faulk.
No brainer poll. We are a young team with a great O line thats ready to compete now. Transitioning RBs to the NFL can play or as Jetfanmack has said, wait until the June cuts to pick up a vet.
We don't have enough draft picks to spend on a 3rd string running back with some of the other holes we need to fill. I'd say UDFA is the way to go for that spot.
Chester Taylor and Sprioles will be out there. Might have to take a look at one of them. especially if the Leon situation doesn't look good.
I have no problem with Jones hitting FA, but I really hope Leon Washington remains a Jet. I think Tanny will be drafting another RB this year in the mid/later rounds.
Try to resign TJ for a lot less money. Lets face it, it was the bonus that caused this to happen. Now with the bonus out of the way, we should be able to resign him for a reasonable cap figure. I really don't see too much of a market for an "old" running back who's numbers can/will be looked at as a product of our superior offensive line. If that doesn't work, draft a rookie and look at the waver wire in August.
Sproles is nice for his special teams, but this guy rarely gets over 10 carries in a game. And Chester Taylor is an UFA making 4 mill, we cant get him.
Believe it or not TJ is probably the # 2 UFA hb (after chester taylor), He wont have a hard time getting a job. I mean hes not going to get the money he wants ora long term deal, but he wont have a hard time finding a buyer.
From what i'm hearing they're pretty high on the kid we picked up from the Cowboys last year. Chauncy something or other.
Lets see what other teams offer him and if they don't offer him "Stupid" money, lets top it by 100 g or so and bring him back. My thing about TJ is that he is starting to have those small, nagging injuries that slow down running backs, on a more frequent basis. He's a work horse but as you age, you just don't recover a quickly as you used to. That said, I don't see anybody breaking the bank for him.
Maybe they are high on Chauncey Washington? Or possibly even moving Woodhead back to HB, although that would surprise me. It'd be nice not to spend one of our few draft picks on a position that is well covered with Shonne and hopefully Leon.
you can make an arguement for woodhead, but how can you call washington awful when we haven't even seen him out there yet?
Yes, fill us in on this vast knowledge of Chauncey Washington... Losing TJ means that Greene moves into the feature role, Leon in the 2nd back role (10 carries or so), which leaves room for a power back in the 3rd slot. That being said, this back could expect 5 or so carries a game (depending on injuries). Don't expect a big name in this capacity, the FO seems high on Chauncey Washington for a reason.
This is what I hope will happen. The Jets FO are playing things well and saying all the right things like how TJs presense as a leader etc.... But at the same time giving him his freedom to to elsewhere if he chooses. So what will most likley be his last (?) season he might as well go with the Devil you know.
As a veteran presence id pick up Chester Taylor, I still feel hes got a good amount in him, only had one huge mileage year in 2006 when he ran for 1,216 yrds over 303 attempts. He can receive well and has been on winning teams. Not to mention he is 30, 1 yr and one month younger then TJ. If not id pick up Willie Parker, 29 yrs old and has been on a Superbowl winning team.
