That is exactly what we have seen this year with Favre. The CS is terrible and deserve to be fired for the worst stretch of gameplanning I have ever seen but the difference between our season being over right now and playing one more meaningful game has been the play of Bret Favre, he has been absolutely terrible these last few weeks, really all year except for a few games. When Favre was brought in I never thought I would say this but please hang the cleats up. You have already ruined your legacy in my eyes, hang them up before you ruin it throughout the league. You fucking suck, I now hate you along with Mangini, Schott, Sutton & Coles. I don't want to see any of these fuckers near the Jets anymore. Time to start over AGAIN.
We have a good run blocking line and a pair of good backs. With a good OC and HC in place a new QB's job is pretty easy. Just hand the ball off a ton, and occasionally throw to Keller, Stuckey or Leon. The play action pass would even open it up for Cotchery, and Coles would be open too but he'd just dog it anyway. Favre's ego is what had him come back for more and even get himself traded. I don't quite think he is completely done, but I do think he is a liability and not an asset at this point in his career. He is a downgrade from Pennington, who himself is not an elite QB. Favre did finish in the top 5 last year though.
Exactly what I have been saying about him when the rumors started. He hasn't looked good this season outside of a few games (Arizona, New England, Tennessee). The only silver lining about today is that we'd only have to give up a 3rd rounder instead of a 2nd rounder for him.
Yes there is something worse than a great player hanging on too long- when our team TRADES for him w/ a month to go to start the season when we had a better player at his position!!!!
The problem is that when an old athlete is playing well he says Why should I retire when I'm still good? Then when he's playing poorly he gives a speech about Going out on top. You can't have it both, they don't go together.
You know what the kicker is? All the JETS fans who wanted a gun then the CS pulls in the reins and tries to make him Chad like. Both Failed.
Every time they took the cuffs off Favre, he threw interceptions. Favre is done. Enough playing with other team's washed up outcasts. We have been waiting for decades for our own home grown QB. I'm so disgusted with this team right now, I want them to just break it down.
Favre has been a disaster this year and the CS has as well. There are some pieces to work with though if we can only get lucky with a QB somewhere, somehow. The QB and CS will determine how long it takes to contend again.
We need a real #1 WR, a real QB, and we need another starting DE. We could use a safety and a decent linebacker. I think our OL is solid, RBs are fine, DT is fine, and at least 1 CB is fine.
I agree with the premise of the thread, and I think we've had Brett Favre retirement threads around here each of the last several years. But this year wasn't all that different than any other recent year. Last year was a notch or two better, but he's otherwise been pretty consistent with both his success and failures. That last minute pick he threw? Not a game changer at that point, but he's done something like that each of the last few years. There was a Brett Favre dude that played about three games mid-season this year. That's the one that'd be nice to have consistently. I'm not going to second guess letting Chad go, though. Something else had to be done, and clearly KC wasn't the guy.
