I'm baffled at the fact Leon Washington is being compared to Barry, and the Jets won't pay him. This guy, without a doubt, is our MVP. Hopefully, Sanchez has something to say about that...but anyways, if the Jets were to somehow, someway see Leon go and wear another team's jersey, it would be devastating. Is Tannenbaum being smart about the situation, or is he an idiot for not already locking up Leon? I'm with the latter!!!!
i'm convinced leon would be a leading rusher if given the carries. the guy avoids big hits. i'd really like to see him with 20 carries per game at some point.
He could be a feature back if he keeps avoiding the hits. I say pay him $5-6 mil. and get it over with. He's worth it.
from what i saw this preseason, he looks even better than he ever has before. he now deserves the 6 million.
i think they are just going to leave the five mil on the table and since he is restricted free agent this off season match whatever someone else offers. which could be less then six but could bit the front office in the ass by being more then six
The problem with that is it could be an uncapped year..Goodell expects it. Some moron could offer him the moon in which case we would probably let him go.
Our offer was excellent. The ball is in his court. The Jets have been more then fair. They don't have to give him shit, remember that.
This is about winning. Leon helps the Jets with his skills. His value to the Jets is tremendously high. I said it before the pre-seasons games and I am saying it now. Pay the man.
When it comes to a nick name you have to factor in how it sounds when cheering at the stadium. Go Neon Leon doesn't sound good at all. When Someone screams Leon and the rest of your crew screams Boom Boom Washington. That's a nick name and sound good when cheering! Oh Mr. Cater.
I still think he signs before week 1. What risk is he taking playing without a new contract and the guaranteed millions that come with it? One hit to a knee and his career is over. Almost willing to bet he signs this week. He would be a complete fool not to.
Being foolish seems to be in vogue in the NFL these days. Greedy agents turning down perfectly good deals, players holding out, etc. What Leon and his agent should do is take the money but ask for it front loaded instead of backloaded which is what I've read where the problem lies in the latest offer. Tanny had better understand that he's developing a rep for not resigning his veterans and if that "one and done" tag sticks, nobody is gonna want to sign with this team and the veterans will have their bags packed, mentally and physically, in the last year of their contracts.
I am one of the people who think athletes get paid too much and Leon would be making too much at $6 million a year as a 3rd down back/kick returner. Also, with that much money, you might have to pull him from kick returns. Too risky.
No, you didn't offer him shit - the Jets were rumored to have offered him 4.5 a year. It baffles me when fans get personally offended by the business aspect of the game. It's retarded.
I had a girlfriend in high school we nicknamed Boom Boom. I'm not sure how I'd feel about calling a football player that name.
