I was thinking... why don't we make a TGG Jets player of the year award? Then we can have a thread where every year we write who the winner is with like a pick and his stats for that season. Kind of like a TGG Hall of fame! Technically it would be better to wait for the Playoffs to end but since many people stop visiting the site when the season ends I think the votings should start the monday before the final game of the regular season... which means NOW!!!! (and be closed like a week after the final game of the season, playoffs included). So what do you say? Nominees open? Who should the award be in honor of (Namath, Martin)? Should there be a winner on O and one on D? Since this year we are sure to go to the Playoffs I say nominees from here to the Bills game and after that it's poll time! IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE WHOLE STUFF: 1) Nominate a player on D and a player on O for Jets MVP of the year. 2) What name should the award have? 3) One winner or two (one for D one for O)? 4) Should there be a ST award? Jets Statistics: http://www.nfl.com/teams/statistics?team=NYJ Ideas for awards names: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Jets#Ring_of_Honor
I'll start... 1) Derrelle Revis/Steve Weatherford and Braylon Edwards 2) Joe Namath for the O one and no idea for the D one
I like it.. I think an O mvp and a D mvp would be a good idea. Maybe the Curtis Martin award for the offensive guy.. Joe Klecko for the D? I would nominate for defense.. Pouha or David Harris. Cromartie also deserves consideration for holding down the secondary and locking on #1 receivers when Revis was out and/or not playing up to his standard when he came back. Offense is hard to say. I'd say Holmes but not being there for the first 4 games hurts him. It would have to be a lineman like Mangold or D'Brick. For position players, I'd have to say Braylon Edwards. He's been the most consistent player on offense all year probably. Picking just one for each, I'd go Harris for D, and Edwards for O.
Honestly, the award's namesake should have Petrozza's name somewhat involved. Team MVP = Brad Smith Zero Nominations for offense or defense
that's another good idea... maybe we could name the "hall of fame" in honor of Petro... or either name the award after him if we decide for the team MVP... what does TGG think?
I'd name the awards "The Don Maynard award" and the "Joe Klecko award". Namath gets enough recognition. I want to give more thought to who I would nominate. I don't see any real slam dunks on O or D of the top of my head. No one has played "great". Revis' holdout amkes him nearly inelligable.
Meh... as much as I like the idea to have Petrozza in the name I think they should be called TGG awards because they represent TGG's choice and not just Petro's...
Offense: No Vote. I pass I really can't vote for an offensive player, nobody has stood out as the offensive MVP. I can't vote for Holmes since he missed 4 games and has dropped the ball more than a few times in key situations. The O-line's inconsistent play up until the last few weeks gets no votes. Defense: David Harris...most consistent player on D. Revis has been good, but not the best player on D in 2010.
I was kind of thinking that too about the O... there should be the option of not voting for anyone if no-one is worthy of the award. BTW K counts for O and P for D... I was almost thinking about voting Weatherford for D MVP
O , D and ST????? Special teams...Brad Smith. O...No Vote D..David Harris IMO, anyone not voting for David Harris on defense is missing the boat. Revis hasn't had a "great" year.
D: Jim Leonard (when he isn't there...the D suffers) O: Mark Sanchez (for better or worse, he is the offense)
for the awards I think we should go with the guys nominated in the ring of honor... The "hall" should be named after Petro and the awards after Namath/Martin/Maynard/Hill on O and Klecko on D.
I was thinking about ST but isn't there a limited selection? It's like asking who had the best year between the KR, PR, K and P...
