I don't start many threads, and I'm wasted, so fuck it. New thread. Three plays, not two. 1. ball goes through marshall's hands for a pick. 2. Devin's KO return fumble. 3. The Decker drop. What's most interesting is to think of these plays in terms of "fuck-up"-ness vs actual "value" relative to chances of winning the game. The smith play was obviously the biggest play of the game by far. But it could happen to anyone. Guy stuck his hand in and popped the ball loose. Horrendous mistake by Smith? Yeahhhh. But it could happen to anyone. Freak thing. Conversely, decker's drop was ostensibly the least "valuable" mistake, as it wasn't a turnover, and we still had another down to convert two yards. But it was the "worst" mistake in terms of how he SHOULD have kept his eyes on the football and converted the first down! This was the most inexcusable error. But, again, superficially the least "costly." Until we didn't convert on 4th. The Marshall play was in between both in terms of "shoulda" vs "win value." It's a tough catch, but very catchable. Instead, it's a turnover. Hard to blame Marshall for the turnover part. The end zone play to Davis seems like a big play because of the juncture of the game, but it's just an unfortunate accident and no one is really to blame. In conclusion: fitz deserved better.
Fair thread and those things did piss me off but I watch a lot of NFL every week and rarely does any team play an entire game mistake free. Winning teams just overcome their mistakes. The real problem is we can't score points for shit in the first half for some reason. It's definitely a concerning trend by now.
That's on the coaching. It was the same way with Schotty. How many times did we even score in the first quarter under him? The first quarter is all game plan stuff. You have a QB that's terrible at going deep, against a good and hyped up defense, in the fucking rain. You throw three straight failed deep balls to start the game. WTF
