Maybin was a non-factor this week but someone stepped up in the absence of Thomas and it was good to see him succeed. Great Job Westerman!! :jets:
Maybin wasn't a non-factor. He forced Brady from the pocket on at least one occasion, and also drew a pretty big holding penalty to set up a 3rd & 20 (that was irrelevant because they converted). But Westerman definitely had a good game, was great to see him get a couple sacks
He had agood game rushing the passer. The Patriots ran the ball at him for a reason. They knew he was no Bryan Thomas stopping the run.
I think our pressure is getting better on the QB, especially on Brady who can go a while without getting touched, we were nailing him a lot in the game.
I have to say as much as we hit him, I felt like most of the hits really werent that hard. Not many hits like the ones that we were putting on him in the playoffs last year
The Patriots were pushing the pocket his direction the whole game and he took advantage of it. That diagonal pocket is an amazing thing to look at. The Patriots anchor one side, in this case the left side, on the line of scrimmage and then collapse the other side back to meet the runningback blocking in the backfield. Brady takes a step away from his blockers and gets 4 solid seconds to look at the field because the best pass rusher on the other team has to make a full rush just to get to the end that he has to get around. It's a thing of beauty to look at. Westerman put a crimp in their plans by driving so hard from the anchor side at Brady.
Like others have stated great job rushing the passer and getting 2 sacks. Bad news he gets manhandled on run plays ala the last drive.
I was glad to finally see him get to the QB (of course I'm a little biased because I went to Rutgers). I agree he needs to improve against the run and think that may come in time.
Agreed. He did a really nice job on the pass rush, but they're going to have to find some way to help him on running plays because the Pats were clearly targeting him.
We have no pash rush but yet we manage 4 sacks vs. a QB who has only been sacked 4 times all season long. I guess the only problem was we didn't get to him when it really mattered.
Have you seen the new rules on hitting a QB? Just bring him down and forget about roughing them anymore. He's doing the right thing. He doesn't make enough to pay a fine.
yeah, I felt uncomfortable watching that, and then CBS decided to play it in slow mo, and I it got 10 times creepier.
Maybe this is where we realize B Thomas' value vs the run. He was shitting the bed coming off the edge prior to the injury, though. Westerman pushed the pocket a few times and got two sacks, great job rushing the passer, but wasn't good against the run. We probably had extra DBs in all game as well, with their two TE sets no surprise that they'd set the edge in the run game.
