WEEK 16 Friday, Dec. 25 San Diego at Tennessee - This being the 50th Anniversary of the AFL it is good to note that these two franchises played in the first two AFL Championship Games. The Chargers have defeated the Titans / Oilers 6 straight games dating back to 1993. These two teams are a combined 15-1 in their last 8 games. Sunday, Dec. 27 1:00 Oakland at Cleveland - There isn't much to talk about in this game. Josh Cribbs in one of the most exciting players in the league. These two teams have played in one of the more memorable playoff games in NFL History. Red Right 88. Seattle at Green Bay - This is the 5th straight season these two teams have played against each other. Kansas City at Cincinnati - Larry Johnson will get a chance to play against his former teammates. The Bengals will look to run all over the Chiefs the same way Cleveland did last week. Jacksonville at New England - Jacksonville's slide should continue as they travel up to cold New England. Tampa Bay at New Orleans - This could get ugly early... Carolina at N.Y. Giants - The Giants are still breathing after destroying the Redskins. 12 months ago when these two teams faced off the Giants victory gave them Home Field Advantage for the Playoffs. This year they are just hoping for a chance to get into the playoffs. Buffalo at Atlanta - The Falcons lead the All-Time series 5-4. Baltimore at Pittsburgh - One of the best rivalries in the NFL. The Ravens got embarrassed by 3rd string QB Dennis Dixon in their week 12 matchup, but were fortunate to come away with a victory in OT. Houston at Miami - Do you remember the 2003 opener when Houston defeated heavily favored Miami 21-20? I do. Did you know that Miami has never defeated the Houston Texans (0-4 all time)? If history is an indicator this game will be close (Houston has defeated Miami by 1, 2, 3 and 1 points) 4:00 Detroit at San Francisco - Two teams that are rebuilding. SF seems to be very close to making a run. The 49ers have defeated the Lions 13 of their last 15 matchups dating back to 1983. St. Louis at Arizona - The season is almost over for the Rams. Denver at Philadelphia - This could be a very good game to watch. Brandon Marshall vs. Asante Samuel will be a great matchup. Brian Dawkins will return to Philadelphia where he spent 13 seasons. 8:20 Dallas at Washington - One of the best rivalries in the NFL. One of these teams will likely have Mike Shanahan as their coach next year. If the Cowboys can come away with a win they will be in a strong position for a playoff berth. Monday, Dec. 28 Minnesota at Chicago - Another Favre in primetime matchup. This time in cold and windy Chicago. This will be a good test to see how Favre will fare in the cold weather late in the season.
Thanks SD. Take one team away. Now it's time for the jags and fins to disappear. Of course it means nothing of the Jets lose to the undefeated colts sunday.
wanted titans to win out. if we win out we still finish ahead of them, if we don't, we had a higher draft spot.
watching rivers last nite - me thinks i take him over e manning going forward. in fact i think he (rivers) and brees are a toss up, just a shade under p manning. if SD does not win the big one in the next 3 years shame on them. if only sanchez comes close....... jil
Am I the only one that thinks they are pushing on that a little too hard. No sense in ruining your best weapon in meaningless games. He is closing on 400 touches this year. They should spell him more I think.
If I had a vote for MVP I'd very seriously consider voting for Rivers. Put a league average QB on Indy or New Orleans and you certainly aren't talking about 15 or 16 wins, but both teams would still win their divisions easily. Swap one in for Rivers and I'm not sure that San Diego goes .500. I'd probably end up voting for Brees but Rivers should be a very serious candidate.
Rivers is an amazing QB... he loves himself too much but on the field he really performs. If I think that at the time the trade was E. Manning - Rivers + Merriman + Keading I feel sorry for the Giants... Eli is clearly a step under Rivers as a QB. But then again he did bring NY a superbowl ring so I guess everyone is happy... PS Oh and alos don't underestimate SD recieving corp. Jackson + Floyd + Nane + Gates + Sproles are you kidding me!?
To be fair, Manning right now is playing at a very high level. And oh yeah, like you said, he did win that Super Bowl.
Philip Rivers is an obnoxious human being. I sort of enjoy that he's performing at such a high level, only because it will make it seem more awesome if he winds up failing spectacularly. And if he wins the Super Bowl instead, eh, humbug.
We need a few links for "Other Games Streams". In NY we get only the 2 games this week...The vaGinas and the JESTS....
Early Games Open Thread Figured it would be easier to consolidate non-Jets game chatter in one thread rather than the half dozen playoff picture ones. Root for Houston over Miami, the Pats over the Jags, and the Steelers to beat the Ravens.
I think we should keep this on the NY Jets main page just because so many of these games affect the Jets playoff hopes.
