OK I'm sick of hearing about you know who. Lets talk a little FOOTBALL.

Do you agree with the current overtime system or do you think the rule should change? If you think it should change, do you like the college system, or a different system (explain)?

The college system is problematic because teams begin possessions 25 yards away from an end zone. This has led to numerous multiple overtime games, including 5, 6, and 7 overtime games.

They should start possessions at midfield.

I prefer the NFL overtime system over the college one.

    However, I don't love it.

I'd like to see NFL overtimes begin the same way they do now.
Then, if the team that receives the kickoff goes on to score on the first drive, they must kickoff to the trailing team.
In other words, each team is guaranteed one possession. Plus, under this plan, the whole field is in field. None of this 25-yard line garbage with no kickoffs.
If each team scores identical points after their first possessions, then the game continues as NFL overtimes currently go.

They should institute a system where the Jets automatically win every time, every other AFC team automatically loses, and everything else is decided by a coin flip.

New system. Play another ten minute period. The team with the most points at the end is the winner. If there is a tie at the end of the first overtime, now you go to sudden death like they have now.

Alternative: no penalties, player substitutions or time limit.

I think that each team should get a chance to score but if both fail (or both score the same amount of points), then the normal system should kick back in.

10 minutes, but if you run out of time on, say, your 3rd possession, and the opponent has had 3 already and is leading by a score, you still get to finish the drive without the clock. If you turn the ball over, the other team's ensuing drive counts as your possession. Most points wins.

What if they just got rid of the ability to kick FGs in overtime. Sudden death only touchdowns would be interesting.

A college-like system is the most fair. Just back it up a bit since NFL kickers are much better and field goals are too easy to make starting at the 25 yard line.

It's retarded under the current system that an entire game rests on the fate of a coin flip.

I like sudden death, but how about this....

If you kick a field goal, the other team gets a chance to score, and if they score a TD they win, but if they kick a FG you keep going. But if the first team scores a TD, game over

I think they should either play an extra 10 minutes of football

    OR

Keep the current system but make it first to 6 points. This will keep the incentive to go for a TD.

not really, the team that wins the coin flip wins the game only 52% of the time.

They should use the Arena league rules. it is a mix of the NFL and NCAA

    * Overtime periods are 15 minutes during the regular season and the playoffs.
    * Each team gets one possession to score. If, after each team has had one possession and one team is ahead, that team wins. If the teams are tied after each has had a possession, the next team to score wins.

That makes a lot of sense to me. Write up the petition and I'll gladly add my name.
Just curious, anyone know if there's ever been a sudden-death Superbowl?
