Source: Free agency could start at midnight Posted by Mike Florio on March 11, 2011, 6:31 PM EST As the league scrambles to process the meaning of the union’s decision to decertify, a high-level source with one team tells PFT that the league is preparing for the possibility that free agency could begin soon. As in at midnight. Per the source, the league is bracing for the possibility of a ruling from Judge David Doty that would force the doors to remain open, compelling the league to allow player movement and trades as soon as 12:01 a.m. Saturday. Thus, by tomorrow at this time, Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha could (key word . . . “could”) have a new team. Though no one knows for sure whether that will happen, there’s a fear/belief that it could, and teams are preparing for the possibility. Holy crap, this could get very interesting.
Did you know that this afternoon AL Davis spearheaded and held a vote and got approval for a rule that stated no team can sign another teams free agent until all of theirs are signed? Fucking guy is a genius!
Well that would be Genius as he has one of the biggest commodities on the freeagent market in N Asomugha.
Seriously, you are as retarded as they come. Al Davis and genius should not be used in one sentence. Which players did he sign? Oh yeah, the ones nobody know about that got paid like Champ Bailey money. Oh, and did u know that Jokeland had a lot of cap space left? Probably cuz they don't make enough to pay enough. Turd face has no clue how to run a team. I can see him having a great career in fishing.
ignoring the whole raiderjoe aspect, is this actually plausible? could teams and players start striking deals tonight? I kind of hope so, at least then we would know who is coming back, and what is going to start happening.
There are rumblings of that. Trying to figure out what's true. The only thing I'm relatively certain of is that if Doty rules in favor of the players, we're going to see our 4th and 5th year players as RFAs.
which would mean that Santonio Holmes, Antonio Cromartie, and Brad Smith would all be RFA's? Or did you mean that the players would all be UDFA's?
so thats what we as Jets fans need to hope for then? Because having all those guys as RFA's would make our lives infinitely easier. The only unsigned guy (of real value) on our roster would be Braylon Edwards. Who I am pretty sure we could get under contract without too much trouble. plus having those guys tagged doesnt prevent a long term-deal, it just ensures that we keep them until we can get a deal done. Maybe that extreme long shot that players will actually be RFA's isn't that much of a long shot anymore...
I'd be curious to see who gets long term deals if that happens. Obviously Harris does, seeing as we can't pull the franchise tag and apply an RFA tender at this point.
I would think that we do everything we can to get Holmes a long term deal, and obviously Harris. Brad we would just hang on to for one more year, we just can't pay him what his open market value will be. Cromartie, it would be ideal to keep him for one more year while Wilson develops some more, and then Cro walks and Wilson steps in as a starter year 3 and we don't miss a beat.
Well if it's 2010 FA rules we're screwed again. In terms of signing new guys I mean, it helps tremendously in retaining our own.
