NFL Films is airing a special on the Jets on their NFL Presents series that airs tonight after MNF. A buddy of mine saw a preview and he says it is pretty accurate. Basically it details the highs and lows of what it means to be a long suffering Jet fan. Here are the air times: ESPN2 12/22 at 1 am (Thats tonight after the MNF game.) Wednesday 12/23 at 230 pm If you are going to set your DVRs, I'd do it for the Wednesday show because if the game runs late tonight then the airing will be pushed back. Its good to see NFL Films finally give the Jets and their fan base some love.
With all respect, How long have you been a Jets fan for? Cause I gotta tell ya....their does come a point when the overwhelming misery this team supplies on a yearly basis, really breaks down even the strongest willed and optimistic Jet fan.
I agree but I think that all the misery has turned our fanbase into world class whiners. It's like we're always waiting for the inevitable moment when something good turns bad. To be honest, I'm not sure how to change that mentality without winning (or at least appearing in) a SB.
That truly is the only way all the whining ends. I've always said...it isn't the actual losing...it's the WAY the jets lose games that sends us all into a complete manic state. When you factor in the success of the Giants, and some of our other rivals over the years...there's very good reason for our whining.
I also think there is a difference between upset, angry and frustrated and whining. How can you have watched this team for just the last 15 years and not feel upset? Artie Lange has said it best, “What's the difference between your wife and the Jets? The Jets will always fuck you.”
Kurt- I propose that this might be the quote of the year. Good stuff, Rookie I won't be around in thirty years but you'll know what we mean then.
Jets fans my be jaded by the performances over the years but I'm not too heart broken after this year because I didn't expect much out of Sanchez or Rex for that matter. On the other hand, some of the ST mistakes have been inexcusable. I suppose I can chalk this up to poor ST coaching and discipline within the organization. I'm expecting a playoff run next year and if they don't deliver I'll be more critical. Sanchez needs to show some progress as the honey moon is over. Also, if you think Jets fans are tough on the team (they are) imagine how ballistic Jets fans will go with a SB win! All they need to do is start winning and the fan base will come around. Thanks for the heads up I'll be watching.
I saw a preview of this show. Not a highlight film. Much of the focus is on the fans... and what they've been through. Pretty funny. Once you see it all together, you see how comical the last 40 years have been. Hard to believe it's all happened with one franchise.
Yeah...I watched. Pretty much a celebration of the SOJ philosophy. They rightfully talked about the lameness of the Jets moving to NJ way back when. That still bugs me. That the most intelligent comments came from Babba-Booey says it all.
I'm 21, so I've seen the AFC Championship loss, all the way to Sunday's FG disaster. I just refuse to believe in some sort of curse that haunts this team, although I do believe that when Namath dies the Jets chances of winning it all will get better, because he sold his soul to the devil. I just see it as bad execution, bad decisions and players not wanting it enough. I'll never agree with the SOJ mentality, because I want to destroy the SOJ and everything that goes on with it. The Pats were the Same Old Pats until they won 3 rings in 4 years. The players have never been good enough, and when they were the coaches were not good coaches. I'm too headstrong to think that my favorite sports team has some sort of stigma that will never make them win a championship in my lifetime. If the Red Sox can do it, so can the Jets. We aren't the Cubs of Football - the Eagles are.
