http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/12153916 " NEW YORK -- The NFL has broadened its investigation into tampering charges involving defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell saying the inquiry has expanded from its focus on Washington to include the Redskins and "several other clubs" for possible infractions involving the former free agent. Goodell declined to specify what teams the NFL was investigating, nor did he name how many were involved. "This is not limited to one team," he said Wednesday after a meeting with writers at the NFL headquarters in New York. "We're looking at the extent of teams involved in this topic for possible violations." Why do I get the sickening feeling that the only reason the NFL is looking into this at all is because we are one of those other teams?
I don't think we would have been. Rex was at Bart Scott's house at 12:15 AM on the first night of free agence. He wanted his guys to help make the transition to his defense. I think a lot of the blame in the end may fall on the agent. If several teams were in talks then the agent was also working one end of the line. This looks like a case were he could be facing NFL sanctions.
I think the point they are making is that teams talked to him before the first day of free agency. We still could have spoken with him a day or two before and still been at Scott's house when we were.
I agree with your view on the timeline, I just do not belive we were ever in the Haynesworth race myself. I think Bart Scott was the guy Rex wanted all along and he went out to get him. Could we have talked to Albert? Sure. I Just don't think we did.
Having any contact with him at all, either directly or indirectly before midnight of the first day of free agency.
