The architect of the Baltimore Ravens' two Super Bowl-winning teams will step down as general manager after the 2018 season. Ozzie Newsome, who has been in charge of the Ravens' personnel decision since the franchise's relocation from Cleveland in 1996, will transition into a scouting role after his contract runs out after next season, team owner Steve Bisciotti announced Friday. Assistant general manager Eric DeCosta is set to take over as the Ravens' GM after Newsome steps down, Bisciotti said. Newsome, 61, worked as an executive with the Browns prior to being named the Ravens' vice president of player personnel in 1996. He was officially named general manager in 2002.
