We should make a thread dedicated to updates on the Stadium, including news and photos. NYYFans has one for the new Yankee Stadium, updated with pictures daily. It's coming along great.
Can anyone figure out where that stairway to nowhere goes? Every time I drive by the stadium, I see the giant ramp that seems to just go up to nothing.
That isn't the stadium. That's the mall. They have done virtually nothing to build the stadium at this point. A friend of mine works a fire engineer (as in, she makes sure buildings are up to code and shit) and she says that they are still negotiating the plans.
Looks like an Evil Kneivel ramp. But I thought that was part of the Xanadu complex, no? Isn't our new stadium on the north side of the current stadium? All I know is, the parking situation is cramped. If we hadn't had such a lousy season the parking would have been a nightmare. God Forbid we should start winning games next season... there'll be cars all over the place on the exit roads.
I'll tell you, after seeing that nice domed stadium they used for the SB, I've got to admit I'm jealous. Why TF are we building a stadium without a dome? If you're going to spend the money it takes to build a new stadium, then don't just basically duplicate the one that we have, build one that's truly "state of the art." The proposed stadium offers nothing more than the current one except for about 4,000 more seats. Might as well keep the one they have and sell us half of it. This is bullshit.
First of all, keep in mind that the only reason they are building the new stadium is to put in more luxury boxes and more restaurants and other money-making attractions. It has nothing to do with being state-of-the-art. It's just about making more money. Second, as much as I hate sitting in the cold, part of living in a colder state is the home field advantage of subjecting warm weather teams to the cold. Football is just more fun when everyone is covered in snow. Part of me (the wussy part) would like a dome but I don't think it's necessary.
Good idea. I just barely ever go to NJ (maybe once a month). But if someone wishes to snap pics from time to time, I'd be more than happy to put them on the website.
I totally agree with your first paragraph concerning the money issue. On your second paragraph, quite frankly, in the state of NJ, the cold weather "home field advantage" is bullshit. We rarely get extremely cold days anymore... not cold enough, that is, to affect anybody but the fans. In fact, I'd venture to say that most players from around the NFL would rather play in a cooler/colder climate because by the time they hit the field after they've warmed up (and are running around like crazy), anything more than 50 degrees is uncomfortable. A lot of the players were drafted out of schools that played in colder climates too, so they're really quite used to it. It's the fans who sit there and shiver, because they're not moving around. Honestly, I think this whole open-air, cold weather stadium thing is highly overrated here in NJ. Green Bay... yeah... Buffalo... okay I'm buying it. But E. Rutherford in the winter is just the right temperature to play football in.
It would be a good idea to allow them to post pics of the new training facility too, Petrozza. A lot of us will be going there 18 months from now for the '09 TC.
agreed with the weather considerations.......I mean really, what do we get these days during the course of the football season. maybe one real cold day on a football sunday....and chances are we're playing another cold weather team anyway, so that home field advantage thing is waay overplayed as far as the money goes, a retractable roof on that thing would surely cost a huge amount, but would end up making the place much more of a money maker than it's going to be without one..... one Super bowl, final four or whatever would pay for it plus some..i agree with you, I don't understand why they aren't going that route
