NJ Transit's new rail line to the Meadowlands Sports Complex will be operational for the 2009 season, and NJ Transit is beginning to reserve season passes for Jets and Giants fans. Whether you're in New York City or on Long Island, in New Jersey, Rockland or Westchester counties or even Connecticut, you will be able to take transit to either Secaucus Junction or Hoboken Terminal. The rail service from either location will connect to the Meadowlands Rail Line, just a few minutes away from the stadium. NJ Transit even has a catchy slogan for the experience: "Rail-Gating Is the New Tail-Gating." A ceremony to officially open the rail line is expected to be held in June, followed later that month by service to select stadium events, and then in beginning in August service to all Jets and Giants home games.
Good news I have taken the lirr over the past couple of years its not to bad considering you dont sit in traffic http://mta.info/mta/sports/meadowlands.html
I'm sure they consider it a good idea until the select few decide to drink too much and puke all over the trains. I'ts bound to happen. But for some, it should work great. Just watch where you step!!
Taking any form of public transportation pretty much eliminates any chance of tailgating. Either figuratively or in actuality.
NJ Transit even has a catchy slogan for the experience: "Rail-Gating Is the New Tail-Gating." And if Woody gets his way and they decide to sell $10.00 beers aboard the train.......The new slogan could be "Get railed on the rail to the game". The entire object is to limit the private tailgates and have these people get off the train and spend $$$$ at the food and beer areas they are building. Less mess and more $$$$$$.
All the years I had season tickets tailgating was at least 50% of the fun. Probably more as the Jets were never winning all that much anyway. I fear the new culture of the meadowlands would not be anything I would ever be interested in going forward.
No hibachi needed they will have areas to purchase beer and food for those who ride the rail. Im assuming the carry on 30 pack may be all thats allowed if that.
It was just a joke. I had an image of fans trying to act like they were in the parking lot, grilling inside the train.
And you hit on something I have been thinking about. Whatever beer they bring they will have to drink before the games starts. No throwing the leftover back into the car. Drink it or throw it away. I would think the number of drunks and how drunk they are can only go up.
Thats IF they even allow alcohol to be brought onto the train. Im sure there will be many who sneak it on. Woody is trying to change the entire tailgating atmosphere at the new stadium.
When I did it I met friends at the game. You can also pack beers and sandwiches. I know so much is about money but this is also about another way to get to the game to help with traffic.
Ive never had a problem with traffic getting to the game. Its always been after the game getting out. The parking lot attendants are clueless and block exists for no apparenet reasons. Its like when they block off certain parking sections saying they are full and theres hundreds of spaces left. The rail will alleviate alot of the bus traffic and only a small percentage of fans who drive will opt for the rail because of the obvious tailgating.
Some people here are hating that there's a new public transportation option to the stadium? What's wrong with you people? The NFL isn't all about tailgating getting bloated and pissface drunk before you enter the stadium. It's about the game, remember? If you don't like the train don't get on it but to twist this into something negative is retarded. And for those coming from LI who have had to endure the hellish commute in and out of the Meadowlands, this is a godsend. Driving in and out of Xanadu this year was a fucking insult. Don't get me started on the bus. It sucks. I will not miss waiting on 1.5 hr lines to get a bus back to NYC and sit in traffic with everyone else.
Agreed no one is complaining about it. Xanadu is in finacial trouble as we speak. I could really see that project scrapped. Cabelas has delayed its new store near the Meadowlands.
Not entirely true, Don, at least this season. Over by Gate C (my gate), there is a crew that sets up a pretty elaborate public tailgate (16H in the parking lot). They've got an old, green, Army duece-and-a-half with beer kegs aboard, if you can picture this. And you walk up to the side of the duece and there are beer spigots on the sides of the truck that pour beer into your plastic cup. There's considerable food going on several grilles, too, and all they ask is for are donations. For all you public transporation people, that party might be worth visiting this fall, as I see that and many of the other smaller, mom and pop-type tailgates to be as extinct as a dodo bird by 2010.
This, I agree with. The new "culture," as you put it, is not something that entices me one single iota. It's not that I don't appreciate finer things in life. I certainly do. But I don't go to football games for the ambiance or five-star anything, and I certainly don't go for the "culture." I go to see a fucking game, period.
