The title of this thread has been my motto while watching the NFL this year. Sure, those were great wins by the Jets against the Patriots and the Titans. They showed the Jets can compete with the best teams in the NFL. Still, I wasn't punching SB tickets for the team after those two games. All that showed to me is that this team is a playoff contender. For the Denver game, the team played flat and lost. It was disappointing, especially coming off those other wins, but it's not like the Jets played their best game and lost. They played poorly and lost. So, I really didn't get too down after the game. Part of the problem is if you read the media too much. Their motto is "Here today, gone today". Suddenly it doesn't matter that the Jets beat two high quality teams on their fields. The Jets are just pretenders. Same goes for other teams. Look at what they are saying about the Cardinals today. Just pretenders because they lost to a good team. On the other hand, they say to watch out for the red-hot Colts. Seriously? A team that barely squeaked by the Browns and have squeaked by in most of their games this year. Yes, the Colts will end up with a very good record because they are playing some weak teams, but I don't think they are that good. In the end, it only matters how you do in the playoffs. The Jets need to focus on winning the division. Then focus on winning one playoff game at a time. In the end, that is all that matters. In some sense, I am glad they had this game because hopefully it will serve as a wake-up call to be ready for every single game and to treat them in the same way as the Patriots and Titans games.
I agree Traveling for the most part. Yesterday's loss doesn't really hurt the Jets playoff chances or even their Div Title hopes, however, we're all focusing on getting to the Super Bowl again after 40 years, and the fact is that with a few notable, recent exceptions in the Giants and Steelers, the path to the Super Bowl runs through a 1 or 2 seed and a bye. The Jets really lost an opportunity yesterday to ensure themselves of a 2-game road to the promised land, and it's critical because while I believe Favre is capable of playing 2 really good games in a row, it's unlikely at this age that he will play 3 super games in a row. All is not lost, but the Jets just can't seem to capitalize on prosperity and make things easy.
this should be seen by everyone that only comes to this board after a loss to bitch about the team. well said.
I agree. And nothing for nothing, anyone who actually thought this game was in the bag, has never seen our secondary. Our pass D is horrendous at times and when you get a guy that can throw in a pass happy offense it's automatically a bad matchup for the Jets. I would say if they were going to lose a game down the stretch this would be the one out of the remaining games. Not a damn thing to worry about. This team is going to win out from here and that's that.
