i was just glancing at sports center...and i heard this i actually hadnt heard it mentioned yet im sure more posters saw this
From what I've read today, it would cost the Patsies about 6 to 7 mil this year to tag him. I doubt they do that.
considering the amount of cap space almost every team has...it wouldnt seem unreasonable i'd have to see the pats cap number especially considering that 6-7 mil(although for corners i thought it was 8 to franchise) would be a bargain for his demands...he wants a champ bailey contract or they could just franchise him just to get something in a trade for him...which would basically eliminate the jets(im pretty sure the franchise money doesnt hurt the cap once traded) just a thought...i figured this was more reasonable than the mcnabb thread
This would be the smart thing to do. Worst case they keep him for 1 more year at 7-8M. Best case they pull an Abraham deal and get another 1st rounder for a player that was leaving anyway.
I'm sorry but you should care, hes one of the best CB's in the league and seeing him stick our best WR will preety much stink.
I don't think that he is. But either way we can't sign every single top player from our opponents rosters. We need to make our team better not try to make the Patriots worse. I think that Clements will make our team better because he is a great cover corner and is an amazing tackler (something we have sorely lacked from the CB position for a long time)
Well I hope you have been seeing the playoffs, He quickly changes offenses, something we need. I also won't mind having Clements, it just sucks to see Samuels sticking our best WR for the next 5-7 years.
Yeah, he's been playing well. I just don't see him doing that for the rest of his career. I feel he's a bit overrated. But that's just my opinion and I could be wrong. I would just rather go in a different direction.
Here is a list http://www.theredzone.org/2007/freeagents/showposition.asp?Position=CB http://www.footballsfuture.com/2007/nfl/freeagentsDB.html
while samuel would be a good grab for us as well as take away from the pats, does anyone see the staff trying to develop justin miller more and going with him at corner? after all, they did spend a 2nd round pick on him, and i'm sure it wasn't on return skills alone
considering miller has shown nothing so far...no i think he will still be given a chance to compete for the job, but he couldnt beat out dyson/barrett/poteat/coleman/or a rookie/or samuel so i dont think relying on him is what they plan on
getting a player like samuel...(who would be way overpaid) would be huge for the defense the guy is not a complete shutdown guy but is a top cb is the league he has streaks and even games when he can be a shutdown guy...which can allow us to have a safety help more in the box with the run or a blitz you have to pay to get a big time player in free agency
