Just wondering which team in our division you guys feel the most animosity towards. I am a younger Jets fan, I never got to see Dan Marino with the fake spike or the Monday Night Miracle. I love to hate the Pats, they have been the class of the division for nearly the entire time I have been a Jets fan, not to mention all the traitors that have switched sides over the years. Pats weeks will always be super special and more tense and exciting than any other week in the season, especially in the playoffs. The Dolphins are an enigma to me, the games are usually nail bitingly close despite any discrepancies in talent between the rosters, and we have crushed each others playoff hopes on Week 17 of the past few seasons. The Bills, well, I just kinda feel bad for them, to the point where I would actually like for them to do well, the mediocrity the team has displayed over the past decade has been funny to watch. It is at the point where if they made a deep playoff run it would be more of a "good for them" kind of feeling. Also, it's always interesting to watch Stephen Hill come to life for 2 weeks every season against them. TL;DR What team in the Division do you feel the most animosity towards? For me: 1)Pats 2)Dolphins 3)Bills
I'm so glad they realigned the divisions. I don't think I could have handled having Manning and Brady both in the AFCE.
I think most fans hate the Pats more. Even the guys who were there in the 80s to watch Marino's dominance never had to see him win Superbowls and go to others. What Id like to know is when the Pats play the Fins who do Jet fans root for? It would make sense to just always want to see the Pats lose but considering we usually are fighting with Miami for 2nd place and/or a WC spot instead of the Pats for the division wouldn't we rather see the Pats just sweep them every year? Week 1 of this season I might be hoping for Brady and co. to steamroll them.
Changes over time. It's Pats, Fins and a distant Bills. But when Brady retires, the Fins draft Mariotta next year and they return to being an obnoxious team and fan base, they'll move back to number one. Unless of course Garoppolo picks up where Brady left off. I don't think the Bills were ever the most hated, even when they err at their height. _
I've long hated the Dolphins, but at this point in time the Patriots are the most hated. the passive aggressive arrogance really gets under the skin. Once Belichick leaves, and they return to being irrelevant, the Dolphins will be most hated again. Funny thing with the Bills, even when they were regularly winning the division i never hated them. think i mildly rooted for them every Super Bowl they lost. the only thing that annoys me about the Bills are their fans, whereas i despise virtually everything about the Patriots and fish.
That is actually a funny point. The Bills dominated the division for half a decade, and nobody else in the division really gave a shit.
when Parcells took the Patriots to the SB i didn't mind them either. the early/mid 90's was a weird time in football. i couldn't stand the Cowboys or 49ers, and the AFC was so far behind the top NFC teams at that time. also factor in the Jets being completely non competitive, the Bills and Patriots at the time having had zero past franchise success, and maybe i just didn't see either as any threat. just teams that were finally getting their time. Of course, my Dolphins hatred carried over strong from the 80's tho, and still does! Was too focused on hating them (and the Cowboys and 9ers) to even give a shit about the other AFCE teams. Belichick defecting to NE with his napkin resignation changed everything on the NE front.
It's definitely New England now by a wide margin. Success breeds contempt. Dolphins and Bills have been too shitty and irrelevant to care about for the last 15+ years.
I dunno, I kind of admire success if it is fairly earned. For me that's part of the problem with NE, all the evidence of cheating. The other thing is so many of their fans now are front runnners who didn't follow them before 2001. Before then Pats fans, at least those who showed up at the Meadowlands, were sort of only semi-obnoxious drunks. But in fairness alot of NE success in fact is fairly earned. I hate seeing NE beat the Jets, but I have to, if very grudgingly, admire Brady's ability. Still, it's Miami for me.
^ the Pats fanbase being watered down is funny as hell. You go to Patsfans.com or Pats Planet, and it's mostly bandwagon idiots. I'm a glutton for punishment, so I go to SOSH for my Pats takes. There are some really intelligent people there. Brutal, but intelligent. I didn't know anything about Sheldon Richardson when we drafted him last year, and the guys on SOSH were pissed off like you wouldn't believe that the Jets got him. Kind of made me wonder if we had found a stud. It's not all that busy in their football forum, but it's worth the read.
Pat fans are absolutely obsessed with the Jets. Every Patriots forum you go to, there's a 10 page thread about the Jets.
My guess is that they are mostly red sox fans with displaced yankees anger. It's not like they have a whole lot of things for which they can objectively hate the Jets.
A decade of Miami ineptitude, combined with NE being in command with Bellyache and Brady at the helm has finally swung the pendulum of my ire to the north......
Saw this recently: No surprises up there in the Northeast eh? LOL... http://nesn.com/2014/08/reddit-graphic-reveals-nfls-most-hated-teams-in-each-state-photo/
Oh there's no doubt that much of what NE has accomplished on the field has to be respected. Them winning is what's fueled this rivalry. Yet it also makes me loathe them even more. Miami's a close second for me.
I hate the Pats the most followed by Miami, Chicago and the Eagles. The Bills aren't even really in the NFL.
