http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/ATL/10160764 Rod Coleman needs surgery for an accident on a water craft. He will be out for 3-5 months. This guy is an absolute monster. Between Johnathan Babineaux beating up dogs, Vick flicking off fans, secret compartment water bottles that smell like weed, organizing illegal dog fights, Ron Mexico. Demario Williams is also hurt. The Falcons could be a train wreck, despite a really nice draft.
The Falcons will always be a train wreck. How can you play a NFC championship game at home and have 25,000 empty seats? They picked the worst city in the country to put a football team. Even worse, before the Braves started winning regularly they averaged less then 1000 attendance per home game (not 10,000..1,000). If you aren't in the NCAA or NASCAR you don't ever want to be in Atlanta.
When did the Falcons ever play an NFC Championship game at home? The only NFC Championship games I remember the Falcons in was when they upset the Vikings at Minnesota in '98 and their loss at the Eagles in '04....
I too remember the days of only 4,000 showing up to home game's back in 88-89 too the old Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. They had Dale Murphy and thats about it. My first Braves game was back in 1988. Eric Davis hit a 2 run dong in the 8th and the Reds won 2-1. Are you from GA?
The thing about Atlanta is that the NFL is like secondary to all the college ball in the area. They got on top of that stuff in Dallas real fast or the Cowboys would be in LA right now.
Atlanta is certainly not a hotbed for pro sports (no one has mentioned the failures of the Hawks, either), but this statement about the attendance of the Braves is not even remotely close to being true. Here are the per game attendance figures for the Braves from 1966 (when they moved from Milwaukee) to 1990 (the year before they started winning): 18893, 17151, 13823, 18004, 13319, 12424, 9716, 9885, 12038, 6642, 10101, 10771, 11167, 9618, 13024, 10008, 22247, 26172, 21295, 16668, 17232, 15123, 10601, 12235, 12100. They averaged about 20,000 people per game when they first got to Atlanta, and then steadily dropped to around 10,000 per game for the next 8 years. They had a slight bump in 1974 from Hank Aaron breaking the HR record, but dropped to only 6600 per game the next year after he was traded. They then averaged around 10,000 per game for the next six years, until they won the division, where they bounced up to over 20,000 per game, before steadily declining again to a bit more than 10,000 per game. As others have noted, the Falcons have never hosted an NFC championship game. They have hosted only two playoff games in the past 25 years, and in both cases the attendance was more than 70,000.
HAHAHAHAHA... man they're off to a great start. I especailly like the Babineaux beating up dogs part. While we're at it we should just add "plotting to overthrow the government" :breakdance:
Add insult to injury... Falcons DT Grady Jackson is reportedly contemplating retirement. Jackson may retire if an agreement can't be reached regarding his lawsuit on grounds that the Falcons illegally released his medical records. Darrell Shropshire is behind Jackson at the nose tackle spot. May. 1 - 9:03 pm et Source: Atlanta Journal-Constitution
