Molegini has helped us out, I'm goign to say that before even seeing Prima Donna Braylonna on the field, but are we done yet? Someone brought up somewhere the issue of finances and expiring contracts, and it made me think: have we overloaded? Can we keep all these playuhs over the long haul? Do we even need anymore superstars? I look at our team and we have premier, in their prime, talent at every level on both sides of the ball. Personally, I don't want anymore blockbuster moves or trading away of draft picks. We've solved all our immediate problems, isn't it time to batten down the hatches, let this team get some chemistry and turn an eye to the future and the development of cheaper, in-house talent? I mean, yes, we've been bullish in a bear market (that's a stock reference for you kids still in homeroom) and that's a great idea, but let's not overextend ourselves (that was another one - think Federline and papazao). So I, for one, hope we don't tinker anymore with this roster (at least until drafting a whole slew of linemen in 2010). Honestly, what more could we possibly ask for? Ok, hotter cheerleaders, but what else?
actually if next year becomes uncapped, without the cap penalties. It would be time to dump the failing (Gholston) and aging (woody) in order to collect better pieces to win with. Also could be casulties next year, Jones, and my darkhorse Alan Faneca. If he continues to suck balls, I would like to see him gone, he led the team last year in sacks allowed, and has nearly gotten Sanchez killed this year already. For being the highest paid OL, he needs to stop playing like our weakest OL and start playing like the best OL in history like he was when we paid him.
Faneca doesn't go anywhere next year. We need to develop Slauson for a couple of seasons first and further build line depth. We'd have to see huge progress in next year's TC to even consider dropping Faneca. It's more likely that he's gone in 2011.
the way things are likely to unfold, means the teams hold all the leverage next year, and the players hold none. We can simply say Restructure your mega deal or we will cut you and resign you to what you are worth, it's your call. It would be a way to save money is my point. Not that we have to do it, but it would give us a way out of that deal if faneca continues to underperform...
Yep the uncapped year is going to have a major impact on the FA situation. IMO there will almost certainly be an uncapped year. They have until March to get it done. No way Besides the usual jousting between the owners and the players, there is a LOT OF DISPUTE between the owners. Jerry Jones and Al Davis don?t want to share their profit with their less prosperous partners for one. Plus there are several owners who will benefit by an uncapped year. Woody Johnson being one of them. Small chance for a new CBA to be in place by March. Not to mention when the CBA does come back, if it does, there will be another major rise in the CAP. If there is one.
Judging by Tannenbaum's magic when working with a cap, I can't imagine what he could do without a cap....
Did u miss this post below? And this one? Besides next yr being an uncapped year? Here's what I think the plan is: Tanny is trying to become a God. Seriously, he has been out-thinking everyone, if my theory is correct. How? Here it is: 2010 may be an uncapped year. Every team know that. But It might not be. Every team knows that. But how are teams planning as long as their salary caps are concerned? If next is uncapped, teams will start wiping superstar players behinds with money. If its capped year, then those teams that have already spent a lot of money assuming it would be an uncapped year, will fall flat and will have to cut down their rosters. Where does Tanny fit into this? Well, he is ready for 2010, capped or uncapped. If next is a capped year, our salary cap situation is in control even after we resign 4 superstars (Leon, Mangold, Harris, and Braylon) to new fat contracts. We can even leave Mangold and resign him the following year since his contract is not up next yr. If we do so, we'll have salary cap space of probably around $10-15mil, enough to bring in two more superstars. That should probably put close to being the Best Jets team ever. BUT, if its not a capped year, there will be other restrictions as to how many players you can sign etc. Woody will break the bank and bring in 2-3 superstars in that case and again, we probably will be looking at best Jets team ever. We are safe either way. Some teams may not be. When some of the new players we added, move into their 3rd and 4th yrs of contracts, most of them will be in their mid thirties. Renegotiate the contracts, or releasing some them will free up a lot of space you start the process again. Oh, and I think Tanny isn't even looking at the cheerleader squad. We may have to suffer through such a squad for 40 more years.
Al Davis isn't making enough to share it anyways. They may be the worst franchise in the NFL as far as profit making (or even winning) is concerned.
So if we cut him, he'll go to the FA. I am sure someone will break the bank to get him in their. FA doesn't save money. If anything, you will end up with a cap hit and a new contract even bigger, if u want him back.
We're also picking up about $10 million in dead cap space next year that we're paying for this year. Mostly Pennington and Kenyon Coleman.
... we are very lucky to have mikey t atop our football pyramid ... ... i have no concern he will manipulate the cap/non-cap to our advantage ... l_j_r
Ummm...I totally forgot about that. Seems like a capped year will work in our favor. $20+ million in cap space??? Imagine what Tanny can do with that kind of money? 3-4 more studs!
Yeah I wonder why? I am planning on going to Jokeland for the Jets/faders game. Hey, at 50 yard line in the first 10 rows of the lower level, it only costs $100. I wonder why people dont wanna go watch the Faders even at such low prices?
Yes I too agree that the same 40 year old cheerleaders we have now will make the team until they are 80.
I think this is exactly what you're going to see in the future. Although I think it will be free agent acquisitions and draft picks. Both of our lines are not young, and definitlely not deep. I think Tannenbaum is in position to draft the Best Player Available next year, because our starting lineup is solid. However, I kind of hope the best player available is a linemen because Faneca n Woody are gettin up there on O, Marquese Douglass could def be replaced for a better player, Jenkins is a beast but is getting up there and that combined with the weight he plays at, and Ellis is also not a spring chicken anymore. So I think you will see Tannenbaum start sprinkling in their future replacements in the offseason.
