A's ACQUIRE DEJESUS FROM KANSAS CITY

    for Mazzaro and Marks

    November 10, 2010

The A's on Wednesday acquired outfielder David DeJesus from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for pitchers Vin Mazzaro and Justin Marks. DeJesus batted .318 with five home runs and 37 RBIs in 91 games in 2010 despite missing the final two months of the season following surgery on his right thumb. DeJesus, 30, has a 241-game errorless streak dating back to his last error on September 15, 2008. DeJesus was originally drafted by the Royals in the 4th round of the 2000 draft and is a .289 career hitter.

Two professional farm teams trading talent. Oakland has a solid history and my brother is a die-hard fan but seriously California is bloated with professional baseball teams I wouldn't mind seeing the A's "retired" from the MLB ranks. At least moved out of Oakland.

They need to stay competitive and they generally trade away talent as soon as they have a descent year. And like I said Cali has way to many teams.

It's the most populated state in our country.

What are you basing this on? California has more teams than any other state... but it also has a lot more people than any other state. By a fair margin, too.

Calfornia has ~37 million people living within its borders, and five teams. ~7.4 million people/team. (Obviously it's not divided equally.)

Chicago and Pennsylvania both have two teams for 12.5 million people (in each state).

Ohio has two teams for 11.5 million.

Missouri has two teams (St. Louis and KC) for about 13.5 million people (and that's only if you include Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma).

Baltimore, Milwaukee, Minnesota, Colorado, Arizona... they all have fewer people living in their team's zone of interest. (Baltimore would have been a possible exception before the Nationals.)

I am aware. They also have five MLB teams.

One of them just won the World Series. One of them won it 8 years ago. 3 of them are 3 of the most storied franchises in MLB history.

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance

    3 LA Dodgers 3,562,320 43,979 78.5

    5 LA Angels 3,250,814 40,133 89.1

    9 San Francisco 3,037,443 37,499 90.3

    18 San Diego 2,131,774 26,318 61.9

    29 Oakland 1,418,391 17,511 40.1

That's quite a drop-off.. I know I'm the minority on this, it's just my opinion.

I appreciate Oakland's history, Connie Mack and the elephant. It's just they don't compete and I feel 5 teams is bloated for one state.

    Not trying to offend anyone.

Oakland had bad attendance, that's not a surprise. But one must assume that it has a fair amount to do with Al Davis and the stadium. Once Al moved back to Oakland, they destroyed that stadium. It's a clusterfuck and piece of shit to view a game at.

    Back to actual baseball:

The Padres got rid of a ton of players recently: Chris Young, David Eckstein, Miguel Tejada, Kevin Correia, Matt Stairs, Jon Garland, Jerry Hairston Jr, and Yorvit Torrealba.

I'm hoping that Hairston Jr. and Miguel Tejada are re-signed. I'm so glad Eckstein's leaving...

Also, Adrian Gonzalez is re-signed through next season. He'll most likely be dealt by next season's trade deadline.

Padres had a nice run this year, so of course they decide to blow it up.

Correia needs to get his head on straight, but kid has a ton of potential. I was sad when the Giants let him go, but they obviously knew something alot of people didn't.

Torreabla is a damn fine catcher, who does SD have in the wings now that he is gone?

Nick Hundley will probably take over. From everything I'm hearing, the Pads are trying to bring back Torrealba and Tejada...hope everything works out.

I'm not really worried about the moves they've made so far. Latos will be ready to be #1 on the staff. Clayton Richard, Wade LeBlanc, and Tim Stuaffer look really good too. I hated Correia...he was incredibly inconsistent.

The bullpen will still be nasty - Mujica, Thatcher, Frieri, Gregerson, Webb, Adams, and Bell will all be back.

Well, the Pads just traded Mujica and Webb to the Marlins for Cameron Maybin.

I really like the move, but another power arm in the pen will have to be signed.

Not a good deal for San Diego in my opinion. Maybin's got a lot of raw talent but he has not been a good big league player at all so far, and I'm not sure if he's ever gonna put it together.

I disagree. PETCO is a pitcher's park and the Padres' bullpen was loaded.

They traded a pretty good young arm (Ryan Webb) and a decent reliever (Eddie Mujica) for former top prospect that's only 23 years old.

Chris Denorfia was the Padres' starting center fielder this season. Anyone has to be an upgrade.

That's a really good move by Atlanta.

The Marlins so much enjoyed the results of the Josh Willingham/Emilio Bonifacio trade that they decided to one up it.

But hey, look on the bright side. At least they gave an 18 million dollar deal to a catcher who posted a career high .314 OBP.

    Woeful.
