I for one will miss him next year big time. Amidst a season of dissappointments, our special teams continued to flourish. Leon was the visible standout after Miller got hurt, but the unit overall played extremely well. A lot of unsung heroes in the trenches that give us over and over pretty good field position, and held the opposition in check most of the time. His knowledge of the game and savvy techniques gave us a signficant advantage in an area that we desperately needed to improve on. Hope his departure does not set us back. I wish him a very speedy recovery and the best of the best. He is a class act. come back soon
I spoke with Mike Westhoff at TC in the summer of '06 and he autographed my signature ball for me. He was riding his bicycle back from the Netherlands cafeteria and we just started chit-chatting. The guy was really a class act... very "down to earth" guy. On Sunday, as I stated before, I wangled my way into the Lower Section before the game so my grandson from FL could watch his favorite FL player, Leon Washington, warm up. I grabbed some seats on the 50-yard line and we were at about the 13th row. Mike Westhoff was in front of us at one point and I saw him come over to the sidelines and I'll be damned if he didn't look right up into our section. Then he spotted somebody he wanted to say hello to, so he just waved to them.... must have been family or friends. But I remember he had kind of a funy expression on his face.. almost a sad expression. Didn't realize at the time what that was all about but afterward I heard it on the radio (that he wouldn't be returning) and I kind of put it together. He's a great coach and I hope he gets his "medical issues fixed" and gets back on our staff real soon. Good Luck Mike!
