I'm watching Mike and Mike on ESPN and Mike Greenberg says that Herman Edwards is the first half coach of the season. He's a big Jets fan too. I know Herm has done a good job, but they are 4-3, which in my opinion isn't great. I know they were supposed to win only about 6-7 games going into the season and I still think they are going to miss out on a playoff berth. I would have given it to either Rod Marinell of Detroit or Mike McCarthy from Green Bay. BB would get some votes too, but spygate probably hurts him and nobody likes him. Maybe Romeo Crennell or possibly Tony Dungy over Herm too. I know he has done a good job with not a lot of talent, but there are 4 or 5 coaches I would put above him. What do you think?
He has done a good job of holding things together in KC, but I would not say that team is talentless because that is just not true. He's most likely going to have the Chiefs fighting for another WC spot this year. While I don't think he's a great coach he is good enough to keep a decent team in the mix each year. There are better coaches, but there are worse ones as well. Everyone loves rooting for this guy to fall on his face, but he just keeps hanging in there. Lucky bastard.
I think you have it pretty much dead on. He's done a good job (much better than Mangini has, before anyone chimes in with that), but I absolutely put Marinelli, McCarthy, and Crennel above him. BB has also done an incredible job, in fact, but he is the Prince of Darkness, so I'm certainly not going to suggest giving it to him.
I always liked Herman "YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME" Edwards. I agree Marinell has done a great job in Detroit. I actually thought before the season started that Detroit would make the playoffs, they have alot of talent on the team. As for the chiefs i dont think anyone would have thought the chiefs still be alive for a playoff berth. Do you see what i mean.
Ive honestly always liked herm but first half coach of the season ? that should be between rod marinelli or McCarthy not edwards. Greeny! lay off the yack!
I always find these topics hard to evaluate. Because you can have the most brilliant gameplan in the world, make the most amazing in-game adjustments, motivate the ever-loving crap out of your players... ... and it still won't mean squat if you don't have players who can successfully execute the plays on a regular basis.
I think it's between Crenell and Herm right now.... Detroit is an immensely talented team that was just underachieving for a long time.... Green Bay has some good talent on defense and one of the best leaders/QBs you can get... Cleveland and KC were supposed to be two of the bottom 5 teams in football, and they're both overachieving by a mile.... There has been a lot of excellent coaching in the NFL this season, if you ask me... Chalk it up to parody or whatever, but a lot of seemingly not-so-talented teams have been winning games with gutsy performances.... One of those things that makes the league great
That's exactly what Herm is. The coach of the first half of the season. It's the second half that he has trouble with. And, by the time his team makes the postseason, he's done for.
