Game 1: Pedro vs. John Lannan Game 2: Pelfrey vs. Odalis Perez Game 3: Brandon Knight vs. TBA Game 4: Santana vs. Tim Redding After Thursday's game, the team heads to Atlanta for a weekend series witth the Braves. Busy week.
a 4 game sweep would be nice, i'll be happy w/3 out of 4. its ashame we let the braves take 2 out of 3 at shea. c'mon mets, dont blow it
Our TBA is Brandon Knight for Game 3. Got to win the Santana and Pelfrey starts and find a way to split the Pedro and Brandon Knight starts. 5-2 is pretty much a must on this road trip unless the Astros cool off and the Brewers continue to roll over and die.
Tatis was robbed of a double in the 2nd inning, but yeah they're this pathetic. I will admit that I thought that Pedro wouldn't make it through the 5th without giving up at least 4 runs, but it really doesn't matter, given how awful they look.
At least make us feel a little better and throw one at Dukes' head. Put him out of baseball, the peice of garbage thug.
how can you hate guys on other teams more then you hate mets players this season? there are several guys in the mets bullpen who's careers i would much rather see ended than elijah dukes.
This should be getting out of hand soon. Four baserunners in 7 innings against a pitcher with a lifetime 1.40 WHIP. This team is truly a joke.
and there it goes. manuel is such a clueless piece of shit. guy comes in to a bases empty 2 out situation and is allowed to give up 3 runs. no mets reliever should be allowed to pitch to a 3rd batter after the previous 2 have reached base.
I hate when I'm right. What was that again about the bullpen not sucking? When at least one of your relievers shits the bed in virtually every game, your bullpen sucks.
the bullpen sucks but that doesn't mean they're incapable of piecing together 6 outs especially with the expanded rosters. there should always be people up and pitchers should be removed promptly when they "don't have it" and they should be given a chance to extend when they're throwing well, ie rincon this inning and joe smith for the 9th yesterday.
This is of course true, and what we have all been saying for weeks. You have sometimes bristled when people say the bullpen sucks, and that position just isn't tenable. Yes, Manuel needs to have these guys on the shortest leash imaginable, but that fact in and of itself shows how horrible the bullpen is. Even with that, my impression is that at least 1/3 of the time the supposed matchup pitchers give up walks and hits anyway, and that is just pathetic. It's easy for all of us to blame the entire team for this disaster, but the fact is that it is a miracle that this team is still in first place with one of the worst bullpens in history.
If I've bristled at anything it's the abuse of the starting staff for the sake of trying to cover for the bullpen. Prior to the September callups he really couldn't afford to yank a guy right away if he gave up a hit but that's no longer a valid excuse with all the arms they have out there. The chief fault is obviously Omar's for assembling such a pathetic collection but Manuel's insistence of the guys having "roles" has cost them several games this year. Especially in a pennant race where there are only a few games left I can't think of a better way to manage the bullpen then going with the hot hands and pulling guys at any sign of trouble. It may not be a sustainable strategy for the long term but do you really think he would get second guessed for bringing in Smith for the 9th instead of Ayala for example? I'm just not sure what he's afraid of. I also disagree about the matchup pitchers failing that much, Smith, Heilman, Feliciano and Show all have sub .600 OPS against against their strong side this year, just as they all have over .900 OPS against their weak side. If you get into a situation where you only need an inning or two out of your bullpen I don't see a reason why playing matchup with these guys would fail.
