The Mets were 3-0 when I started game threads in 2006. They went 2-1 when I started the Brewers thread this year. Might as well start another thread. July 5- John Maine vs Jason Jennings July 6- Mike Pelfrey vs Wandy Rodriguez July 7- Tom Glavine vs a guy July 8- some guy who is not Maine, Pelfrey, or Glavine vs some other guy
sweet maine sucks that beltran is playing in the all star game. he badly needs some time off. he's been getting even worse lately, after two good games against the phillies.
beltran goes deep! in 5 games, that makes him 2 for 19. That included 3 games in Coors Field, where he was 1 for 11.
No more Mets or Yankess for me for a while. I'll be in McAfee Coliseum for Dan Haren's start on Saturday. The no Yankess thing really excites me. I can deal with a few moments of Yankess game highlights on the ESPN channels and small game recaps in sports sections. No Yankess talk on the radio and no Yankess front/back cover stories is the ticket. This will be great as it always is whenever I leave the NY area. Sooner or later it will be permanent. Fuck you, Yankess!!!
By the way, Sunday's pitcher is Dave Williams with Sandy Alomar Jr. likely being designated for assignment. Williams will have to remain on the team after being called up or will be at risk of being lost on waivers.
How didn't Maine make the all star team? He is not only the ace of the Mets staff he has been one of the top 5 pitchers in all of baseball so far. I really don't care about the all star game but this is a complete joke..
he should've made the all star game and it should not have come down to a final vote. by the way, oswalt went over maine because oswalt was the next guy on the players ballot in votes (smoltz was voted in by players). I just heard Michael Kay ripping La Russa for choosing Oswalt over Maine. anyway, did you know that we're 8th in the NL in runs, behind Houston? Only one run back, though. Maybe we can catch them this weekend. Besides, we've played two less games than they have. Phillies lead the NL in runs.
one more thing I just looked up: Minute Maid Park has actually been a pitcher's park this season. 5th in the majors (based on least runs), behind Turner Field, Petco Park, Busch Stadium, and Tropicana Field. Those damn orange juice stadiums keep the runs down.
Well, boys, I go off to Barcelona for a week, and the boys lose to the Phils and get clubbed by the Rockies! WTF is going on here? At least those losses were bookended by wins against the Phils and Astros, but still, 2-4 ain't too great. I see that the great injury news has continued, since in the past week Gomez, Perez and Sosa have all gone on the DL. I also see that they now say that there is no chance that Alou comes back before August. Sigh. Anything else I should know? On the other hand, I toasted our nation's birthday on Wednesday at the famous Torres Winery outside of Barcelona with food and drinks (with 2 or 3 other US citizens, and about 80 Europeans), so it's all good.
Pelfrey benefits from a VERY large strike zone for the second batter in a row. BTW, where is everybody?
loretta sounds like a great idea, the mets need more late 30's 2b can they at least mention giving gotay a shot playing every day?
I'm sorry to see that that hasn't changed in the last week. For a team with so many injuries, why is Willie unwilling to play a young guy who seems pretty good?
