You should never draft in round 1 solely on need. However, I must admit, I know 0 about Bowe. I'll be the first to admit I do not watch terribly much college football.
bowie is dominating senior bol practices right now he is a very good reciever prospect very physical and fast.. is about 6'2 but plays big. Far from a bad player.
I don't know if I agree with this statement, but it's certainly not our #1 need. We have 2 #2 receivers. I'd love to see a #1, but the only WR I'd want in this draft is Calvin Johnson (that guy has all-pro written on him) but of course, that's also a top 3 pick too. I doubt we're set at WR. Coles... #2, Cotchery #2 maybe a #1, then who!? Smith? No, McCareins? no Raiders would be making a huge mistake taking Russell or Quinn. Both are big time overrated.

coles and cotchery are both easily #1's they almost both had 1,000 yards each. both can bust a huge play at any moment, and their doing this with mostly 5-15 yard routes... so their making plays. every team cant have reggie wayne and marvin harrison. Also look whos throwing two. What would cotch and coles be like with manning?
I don't agree.. neither can "change the game." Cotchery is starting to show those skills, but Coles can't.. He's not a gamebreaker. I agree, the QB has a lot to do with it, and know I'm in the minority on my assessment, but I think the lack of a gamebreaker hurts us. Yes, our QB's arm is not a rocket, but if we had a gamebreaker, he could throw it up deep and score... or at least loosen the D.
I dont agree with that. Coles makes the tough catches, takes the hits and breaks tackles. He was doing really good except for his last couple games when he made a good amount of drops. The only high profile WR I can think of who could excel in Coles position is Anquan Boldin, simply because he breaks an insane amount of tackles for a WR. I can never complain about Coles, he does what we ask of him.
So I guess Cotchery's 85 yard touchdown reception in the playoffs wasn't a play that "changed the game". That is a big time play. What about Coles play against NE during our comeback in the first few weeks. He dodged multiple defenders to score from 30 yards out. In the same game Cotchery made a play which many regard as a top play in the NFL this year. If those aren't big time plays but big time players please let me know what it will take.
I'm not too sure what Mel Kiper is thinking, thats one horrible mock draft. Half of those picks have no chance of happening. Including our pick. The Bucs taking Calvin Johnson? The Cards taking a DE? Jarvis Moss to the Steelers? Cowboys taking Robert Meachem? Jags taking Sidney Rice? Ha, another tall WR that can not seperate in the first round. No way. The Eagles draft a back up CB? Eh.
How can you say Coles isn't a #1 WR because he doesn't 'change games'? If he had a QB who had an arm, he'd be able to catch those long 70 yard bombs which you probably think are what game changing wr's do. Don't you think making a tough third down catch and making things happen after making the catch change games? It's not only 70 yard bombs, you know. And if Coles had a QB that could throw a long bomb, he'd make those catches too. JetsIn2004 is really ignorant on this issue. He expects a #1 WR to put up Marvin Harrison type numbers, whose numbers I'm sure are inflated by having Peyton Manning as his QB. Nearly everytime the ball is thrown to Coles, he catches it, and often makes spectacular moves in order to get the first down and then some. He also ranks up with the Top 10-15 career wise over the last five years in receptions and yards. I'm not sure how he's not a #1. Whenever people show stats like this to JetsIn2004, he ignorantly replies, "well, he's just not a #1, alright?" or some type of nonsense. This guy would prefer Santana Moss over Coles just because Moss catches a bomb once in awhile. To bad he doesn't do other things a WR should do, like make a tough catch and run routes correctly. He just uses his speed to get open and then catches a bomb. Sure, that's nice, but Coles is fast and can do that too but the Jets don't call for long bombs due to Chad's lack of arm strength. I remember JetsIn2004 once said, "well he had Brunell as his QB in Washington and he has an arm, so that argument is stupid". Do you realize that Brunell's completion percentage that year was around 50? The same thing with Ramsey in 2003. I'm not sure how a reciever who puts up the stats Coles does and has the speed and toughess that Coles does cannot be a #1. But JetsIn2004 is 'the most knowledgeable poster' so whatever he says must be true.
I don't know if JetsIn2004 actually watches the games. I think he just studies the salary cap all day and then shows off on here with random tidbits relating to our cap situation. Anybody who watched the Jets this year knows Coles is a #1 reciever and that's not being biased. You know all this shit about #1's and #2's is nonsense anyway. Call Coles what you want but the fact is he's an excellent reciever who makes things happen for us. So does Cotchery. I am very comfortable with those two starting. Drafting a WR in the first round would be very stupid because it is our greatest strength. It's the only position besides TE in which I would be ANGRY if we took someone in the first.
Like I said, gamebreaker is relative bullshit. He was tied for 12th in yards and 6th in receptions. For JetsIn2004, that's not good enough because he didn't catch enough 'gamebreaking' bombs. Neither did Santana Moss while Chad was his QB! It's not a reflection on Coles, it's a reflection on Chad. Coles does something Moss did not; he catches Chad's floaters and then makes a ton of shit happen AFTER the catch. Again, if he had a QB with solid arm strength, he'd be catching fly patterns as well for long TD's.
Who knows when Coles is going to start his bs again, as much as I love the guy. Big, sure hands, what more do u need. We can still get woodley, spencer, in the second round. Love the Pick. COles is 29, and we can still get a decent rb in the third.
