Jets | McCareins for Duckett deal?
    Fri, 18 Aug 2006 19:43:03 -0700

Steve Wyche, of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports at least four teams have called the Atlanta Falcons seeking to trade for RB T.J. Duckett, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. The two sources confirmed that the New York Jets have contacted the Falcons, with recently demoted WR Justin McCareins possibly being involved in the potential trade. The Falcons are looking for a No. 3 wide receiver, but have not confirmed any trade talks.

Now, that's a deal I would do immediately. Sweeten it up with a 6th or 7th round pick - if necessary.

that would be a solid deal...we would actually gain in RB and WR.

The one bad thing about j-mac of TJ would will the following that the post noted in todays paper:

Look for things to heat up in the Jets' pursuit of a running back after the weekend. NFL sources tell The Post the Jets might make a move to acquire Atlanta backup T.J. Duckett, but it won't happen until after the Falcons play the Packers tonight.

The Falcons, according to one source, are seeking a player, not a draft pick. One area Atlanta is trying to improve is at WR, where they might want Justin McCareins from the Jets. The only negative there is the "dead money" cap hit of some $4 million the Jets would incur.

take the dead money hit if it can land duckett and automatically give us a starting rb. We all know the jmc situation was a failed situation. Why not make the best of the deal by getting a starting player for him, take advantage of atlantas need of a wr. I say if that's the only thing holding up the deal do it. I mean they got the better of us when we traded them abe i say we return the favor.

why is everyone so willing to trade picks for a rb who has yet to do much of anything in this league and more importantly with a draft coming up that has good rb prospects...in the past few drafts rb's always fall so no matter where we are we'll be able to find one...stop stressing duckett who is very overrated on this board

I am not huge on Duckett, but I would do this trade immediately - JMac will be at best #3 this year, it seems -

J Mac may very well be cut outright by Mangini. He hasn't shown Mangini that he's bought in to the new Mangini team first philosphy. I'd do this trade in a heartbeat after watching Blaylock and Houston's performance last week.We need to have a running back who can run!

No way he gets cut, but I sure wouldn't be surprised to see him get traded.

If we get him which I truely believe would be beneficial to the team...he would help us. I'm pretty sure he's around the same size as dunnn maybe a little bigger...but he's really a fast and powerful back. But nothing's gonna happen until after there preseason game with the packers

Even if we get him...we still need to draft a running back, but if he plays well enough, it might give us the opportunity to draft a big-play wideout over a running back in Round 1

yes this trade would be huge. duckett brings depth at rb. wr depth is soemthing i think we have with or without j-mac. then if we sign a dt like jackson, we will have filled our biggest holes

You'd have to add like a 4th round pick...

I'm not a J-Mac fan, but he's still a solid #3 and if we lose him our WR corps is very weak. Dwight could handle the slot most likely, but having Cotchery/Dwight/Smith/Ridgeway as our 2-3-4-5 WRs won't scare many teams.
