This is almost sickening. Joe was Joe, he was an original he was hyped by the contract he signed but he was a product of NYC in the 60's he wasn't a creation of his agent or Madison Avenue, it just happened it wasn't planned.

Do we really want to worship a total phoney?

What's sickening is Cimini is probably getting a taste from Leinart's agent.. He has to be trying this hard to recruit a guy

"I'm just a normal, 22-year-old kid," Leinart says. "People say, 'He's Hollywood, he's the King of L.A., blah, blah, blah.' I'm just Matt Leinart, quarterback, someone who's had a great opportunity to meet a lot of cool people. It's really that simple."

Ugh. I can tell just by reading this that this kids is completely full of himself. He'd get KILLED in NY by the media. Like a nuclear meltdown waiting to happen. PASS.

so you want a qb who has no confidence in himself? if chad who played in west virginia at marshall can handle the ny media. im pretty sure matt has good chance of holding his own in the media considering LA is a huge media city.

Exactly. This is starting to worry me. I'm to the point where I'm thinking we don't want this guy. I certainly wouldn't trade the farm to move up for him.

I really don't know how you can tell that from a newspaper article. I respect your opinion but I have to disagree with this one. I don't know one way or another from what I read.

I agree somewhat, but i also believe that any top 5-10 pick that underachieves has always been ripped one way or another by any media?

I honestly feel we will get Matt at #4. And let me say right now if he is there at #4 and we pick an OT instead I will wash my hands of the team. After so many years this would be the final straw. I've been wear green and cheering for the Jets since the early 70's and each year I given then yet another chance.

I stuck with this team after the Robertson mess of a draft but not if we pick Brick over Matt.

LA is all about having an agent and creating an image, everyone in LA is a phoney and it's accepted. NYC is the exact opposite. New Yorkers despise a fake and will eat this kid alive.

I don't think Leinart goes out of his way to publicize himself. That's the agents and the media's job. From what I've seen, the kid is very confident, but not completely cocky, which is a good thing. You'd all be going out with Jessica Simpson, etc., if you had the chance too, so I can't fault him for any of that. He's got a good attitude, doesn't seem like a fuck up and he's a proven winner in a big program in a big market. I hope we take him.

I don't want People Magazine's choice at QB, I want someone who wants to play football... not slum around with all the skanks in Hollywood. Seriously, do we want this guy spreading the nasty shit he caught from Tara Reid and Paris Hilton and whoever else around the whole locker room?

Joking aside... He is a complete contradiction to everything Mangini "supposedly" represents.

why do you keep calling him a phoney???theres no questioning what the kid did on the football field in college...all this "the new york media will eat him up" nonsense is way too overtated...whos gonna eat him up?rich cimini?mark cannizaro???gimme a break..the kid has played under a gigantic microscope his whole career so far....ya bring up joe namath...the man was and is a total deuschbag... when he was making sexxy commercials ,wearing fur coats and praising himself to everyone who wold listen did you hate him??was he a phony??how anyone can read this article and not want matt leinart because of it is simply retarded...and moronic...no offense guys but lets let the namath go already...40 years ago...and the man is a toolbag...if we dont end up with leainart..great,i hope our picks all make it to the pro-bowl every year...but if we do get leinart perhaps..just perhaps he can be the man...and maybe even lead us ato a superbowl someday...and maybe..just maybe..even though for some of you old-timers its hard to believ...maybe he'll be better than the overrated joe namath.....p.s...in case anyones wondering,im 35 so not an old-timer..and not a newer fan either

It isn't just the media that will eat him up it's the fans.

Namath had tools coming out of college that Leinart can only fantasize about. Joe was a country bumpkin who embraced NY and NY embraced him back. It wasn't some fabrication by a PR machine hired to do a job. Joe has a lot of boils but he will always be loved here because he was who he was and didn't have a corporate marketing team selling the fans something he wasn't. We all saw his blemishes and accepted it and he may be over rated but if you saw him throw the ball you know that Leinart isn't in the same league.

No offense but 35 is the twilight zone between youth and maturity. You are an old timer, you just haven't accepted it yet.

You gotta love it. So many people writing Matt off as a phoney ,who only cares about himself and won't be able to handle football in New York...because of a newspaper article! What a joke.

Here's a thought.... we need to realize that all these people are just doing a job.
The sports writer, sports agent, hollywood agency... it's all work to them.

Matt represents there product. It is most likely that Matt will be a big success in the NFL. These folks are just trying to do what they do best.
Make money for themselves and their clients.

If we look back at recent QBs entering the NFL, few have had the marketability that both Matt and Vince Young posseses. No offense to the talented Mannings but....... not very pretty to look at or listen to... are they??

Troy Aikman came out of UCLA but never did posses the charm or charisma that Madison Ave. could sell nationally. These folks see that broad appeal in Matt, and as long as his game his good, he and his entourage will be rolling in dough if he plays for the JETS... JETS... JETS..!!!!!!
