Didn't see this posted yet, in Cimini's column today he states that Jamir Martin has been cut and Zach Hilton has been resigned. I haven't been impressed with Martin the last couple of games and think he has contributed to the failure of the run game, but who will be the FB now. IMO, Askew is not the answer. We need a big bruiser who can block. As for Hilton, his height alone should open up some opportunities in the redzone. Maybe Mangini has soured on Ryan already; possibly getting ready to let him go and promote Tutt to FB. Who knows....

Backup fullback Jamar Martin was released yesterday, a source said, and TE Zachary Hilton was re-signed....

I liked Martin, but I agree, he didn't play terribly well.

I wouldn't be surprised if you saw more of Baker in the backfield as FB. They talked about the TE lining up in the backfield sometimes. I'm not talking exclusively, just sometimes. They may just decide to go 1 back too.. Heck, the fullback isn't working.

Good to know they haven't quit on Hilton just yet. When you see a 6'8 target in the endzone surrounded by guys that are about 5'10, you're going to the 6'8 guy.

I think he's a real red-zone weapon, just gotta hope he's a good passcatcher, and a good blocker.

One thing I noticed at the game last week which I hadn't picked up on watching the Titans game on TV, is just how much motion the FB is called upon to do in Schotts offense. Many plays he was running up and down the line of scrimmage 20 yards before the play is started. That's got to be tough on a big guy stamina wise, not to mention makes it difficult to set up your block when you are just getting set and the ball is hiked. I could see them using more traditional FB play in the future to get this thing straightened out; back to basics so to speak....

The only play that stood out for me about Martin was a hold during the Pats game.

Wasn't Hilton discussed as a possible move to FB a couple weeks ago? Perhaps that's why he was resigned and Martin released?

I would hate to see Baker come off the line and into the backfield. He is a quality TE, and we haven't had one of those in quite some time.

Nice to see Hilton resigned. He is a tall dude, so that's always an advantage when the endzone is crowded, or if any part of the field is crowded. You can pick him out in the crowd.

There were several times I saw Martin either get stood up at the line or run through the line only to not block a single player.

Jets sign Zach Hilton and Matt McChesney

    By Hoss Aultman

    Posted Sep 20, 2006

The Jets made some roster moves on Wednesday on both the regular roster and the practice squad.

As expected, they brought back tight end Zachary Hilton, who was released last week. To make room for Hilton, they released fullback Jamar Martin.
The Jets also made some moves on their practice squad. They released offensive lineman Isaac Snell, and re-signed defensive lineman Matt McChensey.

we are all talking about martin but why do you think snell was cut

We signed wade Smith so maybe thats why we wanted McChesney on the PS instead .It seems our Dline is struggling just as much as the O line. Why havent we seen The DLineman from Minnesota yet? He is always on the inactive list.Whats up with that?

Does anyone else think that Hilton would make for a good FB? I was just sitting here thinking about his body attributes, and was just curious if anyone else had ever thought that. I really dont know much more about Hilton other than his body build. Meh... Random thought...

He's 6'8...I don't know how he could play fullback. Sean Ryan to fullback makes more sense.

I just was curious, is there really any reason we keep Askew? Watching that last game, I couldn't even tell if he even played!

I know, but it just seemed like that would be a huge blanket for the pass/run blocking scenario. You run at a 6'8 FB, and you would shit your pants. It was just a thought. ;)

I mentioned that I thought I had heard that the Jets were thinking about doing just that in my post above. I don't know if I am just remembering something that never happened, but I thought that's what I heard.

I'm pretty sure you're preaching to the choir with that comment.
