Let me start off by saying that I'm a huge Virginia Tech fan but I follow N.C. State very closely. I've watched Super Mario since his true freshman year and allow me to be the first to tell you that this kid could actually revolutionize the DE position. He's got Seymour's size with Peppers athleticism. Some people have even compared this kid to Reggie White. I wouldn't go that far but he could come damn close. This dude had 13 sacks last year including 6 in his last 3 games. If that doesn't spell beast then I don't know what does. I remember shaking in my boots whenever N.C. came to town to play my Hokies and the sole reason was this dude. If Leinart and D'Brick are off the board, then I think it's a no brainer that we take Mario. He's as versatile as they come and fits Mangini's philosophy perfectly.
to be honest with even if D brick is on the board i would take mario williams. i dont want a OT at #4
Yeah, I'm starting to think the same way. Now that we have the 29th pick, we can always take a guy like Winston or Scott.
Players I would take at 4: 1-Reggie Bush (duh) 2- Matt Leinart 3- Mario Williams 4- D'Brickashaw Ferguson One of those guys will be there and I want one of them.
Certainly Matt or Mario before Brick. I think most people on this board would agree though that if Mario, Bush and Leinart are all gone. Brick should be the pick. There will always be people that say "we should trade down if those three guys are gone", but trade downs are not as automatic as everyone thinks...
I think the board is split pretty even between Mario and Brick. With a few for Young and Leinart, and a couple fanatical Davis fans. But the man-love for Williams is getting a little creepy. I am not talking about you, but there are a few that I think want to have this guy's children. Ugh....Sorry cold chill down my back
I think Mario has more supporters than Brick... I think some people at first were confused and thought "Mario can't play the 3-4"...... They took that out of context from reports that said he would have better STATS in a 4-3 but, is an absolute moonster as a 3-4 DE and incredibly versitile - Just like what they want here... Ferguson, on the other hand is a little light and not a great run blocker - I have doubts and I think we can get a OT later on when you certainly won't get a Super Mario ; ) Man Love..... Maybe we need a poll.... I say Mario blows it away.
I don't think there is any question that Mario Williams has potential to be a beast. Still don't think thats the direction we should go though. Throughout this process I didn't think there was any way we would take Young at 4 but now I'm not so sure. It very well could come down to a decision between Mario & Young if he gets by Tenn. I'm not sure which direction they go.
It was a joke. Lighten up. I know many Brick fans here. I can make a list but I would rather not. As for Brick. Every scouting report I have read says his frame could easily support an additional 15-20 lbs. Which with a little coaching would greatly improve his run blocking. How do you know you can't get another Mario? No player in the draft is a sure thing and there have been many top 5 busts that were called "sure things" coming out of college. Hell Reggie Bush could bust. None of these players should be put on the pedistal so many put them on. They have not played one down in the NFL and should be viewed with a little perspective. For the record, I would be happy with Brick or Williams. But at this point I think Brick fills a bigger need on the offensive side of the ball. I think it is much more important to find a franchise LT to protect the QB, then it is to find a DE, at this point anyway. That being said, if they drafted Williams, I am not going to jump of a bridge.
Reasons to pick Mario over Leinkharde 1)Mario doesn't hang out with Nick Lachey 2) Mario has a better arm 3) The eventual espn highlight of Williams smashing Leinny into the Field Turf
I agree with you, amazingly I feel the exact opposite about our need. I feel we allready have a potential franchise LT on the team. He may turn into a bust but he has as much potential as D'Brick. I feel we are in dire need of help up front on D and on O but on the OL our big need is RT and guard not LT. On D while I do feel we need a big DT, with the trade of Abe we do need a monster DE who can play both DE and OLB in rushing situations.
I'm as light as can be - Not sure where you sensed hostility but, play on brother!!! And Sure they should put players on a pedistal - For people who love the NFL and the draft this is freaking CHRISTMAS TIME!!!!!! We should be as excitied as we want to be about these players - We all know it's a crapshoot but, that doesn't take the fun out of it - THIS is a real good draft and the Jets have a good numer of picks... We ARE going to get a potential stud out of this and a key player..... Liek it or not, pedistal or not, the Mangini era has a lot invested in this 1st pick and it IS a big deal.... I WANT to see people excited about different player - Bottom line, the Jets are in a great situation and all these guys should be damn good.... It's a beautiful time of the year for NFL freaks and the presents are all there for the wanting.... No need to rain on anyone's parade - This stuff is GREAT!!!!!
Is there a change that the Titans take Mario Williams? The 1st 3 picks would then be: Bush, Dbrick, Williams. No QBs in the top 3? Has that ever happen?
