While we dont know what the result of this game will be on Sunday, we know one thing, the Jets will try to establish the run game. Likewise, the Patriots know this as well.

Running the ball on the Patriots will be key. If we can establish the run, Sanchez can work in the play action and we can control the ball for longer periods of time, likely resulting in a close game at the end. The perfect example is the Colts game last weekend. Once we got the run game involved, we were able to play smash mouth, ground and pound, in your face football and control the game from there on out.

I think the key to this is our Offensive line vs. the patriots D-Line, and specifically the matchup between Mangold and Wilfork. We know what Mangold is about, but Wilfork is an amazing run stuffer and is a force to be reckoned with.

With that being said, do you guys think that Mangold can somewhat neutralize, or at least slow down Wilfork, allowing our backs to get to the second level for 4,5,6 yards/rush?

PS: Question, I dont watch tons of Pats games, so I'm not sure of this, but do the patriots ever move Wilfork around on the line, or does he always stay at NT position?

    Thanks

They usually do a good job on Wilfork, who the Pats do move around. But yes, the key is going to be our O-line. If they can dominate at the line, wear down the defense, and force the hooded stooge to commit extra guys to stopping the run, that should open up big plays deep.

But, in general, I think Mangold, Slauson and Moore will be able to neutralize Wilfork, and allow the team to have success running the ball.

I'm more concerned with the Wilfork vs. Hunter matchup we'll surely see a lot of. Mangold can handle Wilfork.

Hmm, I guess youre right. Hopefully Hunter's up for the challenge.

From what I saw in the last couple of games from him, I am confident he can do an adequate job against him.

I think if we can get some plays to force Vince into running, we might have a chance.

The thing to be concerned about is Pats getting in the backfield...then rolling around, which they do.......alot.

Wilfork is about as dirty a player there will be on the field Sunday.

I won't shed a tear if he gets rocked.

Gronkowski will step in and take care of Mangold.

If the Jets have problems with the OL, it won't be because of Mangold. He was banged up a bit early in the season, but for the most part it has been another solid season for Nick.

Ferguson has also had maybe not quite so great a year, but nearly. Moore also has been very good. Slauson still worries me, though. And Hunter? He's playe well, but the Pats will definitely challenge him. We shall see...

If Slauson was a first round pick and played as well as he has this year, you would not have any concerns about him. I'd worry about Sanchez more. he is too inconsistent! Hunter played against excellent DEs in Chicago and nullified them. He is probably the strongest guy on the team. Wilfork is strong but not quite a passrusher at this stage in his life. He stops the run as well as most though. That is where mangold comes in. We got 152 yards on the ground against Wilfork and the Pats when they beat us 45 to 3. Thattells me that Slauson did well. The culprit was Sanchez and his 3 picks.

Wilfork has been Mangold's personal bitch for some time - which is why Cheat decided to move him around, avoiding Mangold vs Wilfork match up. As good as Wilfork is, he is very light as a NT, barely over 320. He ain't nothing like Big Jenx or Tony Siragusa or Sam Adams from the Ravens heyday, i.e. he is not the kind of imposing immovable object in the middle that typical NTs are supposed to be. If anything, he's but a few pounds heavier than Dslob, who happened to be at 317.

TO our line played it's best of the year when Woody was out and Hunter was in.

Against two of the top defenses in the league too. I was begging them to take Woody out last week and out Hunter in.

Steelers and Bears are the top rush defenses, we're 3rd.

Against Pittsburgh, we put up the most rushing yards they allowed all season. Only allowed 1 sack and 1 QB hit on top of that.

Against the Bears we rushed for over a hundred yards, and allowed 0 sacks and only 1 total hit on the QB.

I'm not happy Woody is injured, I am happy that Hunter is starting.

I dunno, Slauson has looked to be the most inconsistent member of the OL all year. And I AM worried about MS - I was only talking about OL starters.

You should be worried about MS its is an inflammatory disease in which the fatty myelin sheaths around the axons of the brain and spinal cord are damaged, leading to demyelination and scarring as well as a broad spectrum of signs and symptoms.

Mangold can go up against Godzilla and I'd still have confidence in Nick getting the job done.
