There appear to be vastly different philosophies about how to manage training camp. Mangini is taking the old school, work em till they drop approach. Do you guys agree this is better than the Edwards approach of the last few years? Take a look at the below, from Today's KC Star. Looks like the Chief players haven't learned quickly: say that something hurts and you won't have to practice.....Also, the "Hermism" is classic. We didnt physically practice and that's a good thing!?! INJURY REPORT Croyle (shoulder), halfback Priest Holmes (neck), wide receiver Scott McCready (shoulder), tight end Aaron Golliday (hamstring), guard Brian Waters (foot), defensive linemen Junior Siavii (knee), John Browning (back) and Steve Williams (knee) and defensive backs Lenny Walls (hamstring), William Bartee (Achilles?), Marcus Maxey (knee) and Alphonso Hodge (knee) did not practice. TODAY?S SCHEDULE The Chiefs will practice in the morning and afternoon, both without full pads. HERMISM ?We took advantage of it. We met in the classroom. Sometimes that?s as good as the practice. We walked through some things.? ?Edwards on losing the morning practice for the second day in a row because of rain.
Edwards went on to say "I had my guys go outside and run between the raindrops. Gran-ma-ma used to tell me to go doge the rain drops and if I can do that, some day I'll be somthing. Now I know she just wanted me out of the house so she could drink her ripple in peace, but here I am, standing at the podium with my shit-eatin grin"
Brody Croyle must actually be hurt though....there's no way a rookie QB should be taking time off unless he absolutely can't go...
This is absolutely precious. It's SO Herm. They can't practice in the rain? "Walking through some things" in a classroom is as good as a real practice? OMG, this is just too funny.
I also like the "two practices scheduled today, both not in full pads". That's Herm for ya. Wonder if Ty Law is taking a nap as we speak?
Do you think his walkthrough's are like are like the ones your high school team would during the pep rally. No pads, no shoes. The coach gets on the mic and says "This will be the first play we run tomarro. Left Eagle 55 gap which is a run between guard and the tackle." The offense them proceeds to "run" the play half speed with no defense. I'm sure that really helped them out.
I look at camp much like Basic Training. You bring them in and beat on them for a couple of weeks and then slowly ease off as it rolls along, and everyone is coming on board with the system and getting better conditioned. Too much would be a bad thing if it ran all pre-season or something. Too little and guys may adopt a lax attitude or not be conditioned enough for the start of the season. I'd say its a balancing act not going too far to the left or right.
It's like I always say, "sometimes you practice, and sometimes you don't, but you're always a football player. Because that's what these men are, they're football players, and if you play football and you love football, you're like a chicken with its head cut off. You're running and running and it doesn't amtter if you're running or not, you're still playing football. In your head. It's in your head men, it's mental, that's what football is about."
I met a guy last night from KC. He believes Herm and the Chiefs go 7-9. He said the majority of fans he knows are really pissed about the push to conservative offense.
Hahahahahahaa.... Ty Law showed up 15 pounds overweight last year and he's probably more like +20 this year. He's probably home eating ice cream and counting his cash.
Oh man...this is some funny stuff!! http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2006/08/03/qa_with_herm_edwards__83/
This is Herm's version of the "Who's on First" skit. Honestly, what is he talking about? What is he referring to when he says "That's probably the difference"? The difference between what and what? His baby daughter will start talking at age 5 if this is what she will be exposed to for the next couple of years.
