Although i think its time to see chad sit, I think Mangini is actually handling the situation well. I know I will get blasted for that comment. Benching Chad is a huge decision. He is the captain and has a lot of support in the locker room. By giving Chad a chance to dig himself out, he is showing his loyalty to the rest of the team. Just because the fans and media think Chad should go, the players probably think otherwise. I know the fans don't want to hear that but the players come first. the fans will continue to buy tickets and come to the games. If you lose the players, your job is over. I like Mangini's focus. He seems set in his ways and he won't let the NY media get the best of him. You won't see him rant and rave like Herm or Jim Mora. He will take his licks and keep his mouth shut. I do think he will wind up being a superb head coach. He is a smart man and knows that this is year two of a long term rebuilding/ franchise stabalization project. He has drafted 8 quality players in the last two years. Give the man a chance to rebuild. That is what he came in to do.
Yeah it is a big decision, but when nothing is going well you have to look at what can be done to change the dynamic. You can;t really change personnell on D....the best we have are in there and they just aren't cutting it, that's tough shit, we have to deal with it. On offense, the one difference making change that can be made is at QB. So, what's the bigger decision, to sit down the team leader and captain, or to allow the team to continue falling?
I don't disagree...to a point. It's definitely a new angle to see Mangini's seemingly blind support of Chad as a way of showing support for his players. While it theoretically seems possible, I don't believe that is what Mangini has in mind when he's backing Chad. I think if Mangini thinks that he needs to start a player that he thinks hinders his team's ability to win, just to keep support of his players, the guy's career as Jets HC is over. I agree with the year 2 of rebuilding thing. Really, we had a cakewalk schedule last year and that made it seem like we would come in this year and somehow do well. Losing Kendall hurt our running game alot, I think, and Chad seems to have now an inability as well as a lack of confidence in the downfield game, as does the coaching staff.
In Kerry Rhodes' post game press conference, one of the first questions he was asked was about whether or not there should be a QB change... He sighed, and said, while rolling his eyes, as if reading from a cue card "That's the coaches' decision" He seemed really frustrated the whole game, and this little segment spoke volumes to me about the sentient inside the locker room
No they didn't. Special teams scored 6. Leon Washington returned two kickoffs into Eagle territory and both times we got 2-4 first downs and had to kick a field goal. To me thats not an offensive score, I'm sorry. And then the interception at the twenty that netted us a 3 and out. That was the most frustrating thing about today. That was three points COMPLETELY created by the defense, who, for their inability to stop the run, has created points these last two games. So how many points did Chad lead this team to score? Nada. And the Eagles defense is more porous than ours. Goodbye Chad.
As big Chad guy -- there is no reason to have him continue to start. The thing that worries me is that the CS must not think KC is ready or the real deal. (REmember -- many on this board called for Brooks Bollinger)
