Freakin Mangini being Mangini. Could be a smoke screen but what makes it interesting is that it sounds like both will still be there when camp opens.

"Brady Quinn was given the opportunity to entrench himself as the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback in 2008 before an injury derailed his season. However, new coach Eric Mangini plans on making Quinn earn the spot again for the 2009 season.

At the owners meetings in Dana Point, Calif., Mangini announced that the battle for the Browns' starting quarterback spot will feature an open competition between Quinn and Derek Anderson.

"I talked to both of them about that and was very clear," Mangini said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I said if they have any questions they can come and see me. In terms of the competition and their opportunities. That's what I told them. They understand that."

Mangini said, however, that he couldn't rule out a trade happening before the competition even begins."

No surprises here. We all know how noncommittal Mangini is when it comes to his QBs. I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them start at some point this season even without injury factoring in.

It would be great if Brett Favre came out of retirement and the Browns got him right in the middle of this QB competition.
