Mangini on "Open Mike" on SNY-TV station, 4:30PM: Mang at podium: Broad smile... joking with reporters "Whatevr we say, let's keep it in this room"... (joking) Bengals game: praising Marvin Lewis as coach.. his progression as coach in league.. bla bla Explosive QB, abiltiy to throw accross the field... bla bla.. Red Zone, etc., create a lot of problems. Running game very effective... difficult group Defensively, very pressure-oriented def... LBs, different looks... give awy-take away ratio good.... pressure on the QB Smith is disruptive player... ST... only gave up one return in the5 years that coach has been there.,.. Questions now...
Couldn't hear the question... Mangini: The one play you take off is the one you get messed up on.. Q: about this year Mangini: each year presents diferent problems Q: Agout tackiling... are they trying to punch the ball more Mang: Defensively yoiu're always trying to strip the ball in practice... if you're making the tackle, second thing you want to do is get the ball out (having a lot of trouble hearing the questions)
Q: Why dial up the throw on that play? Seems like low % Mangini: LC makes that play... one on one, when you do get those chances, a lot of times it works out Q: didn't hear it Man: talking about routes Q: about tackling drills Man: will continue working on tackling drills, allows your TE and RB to work on runing with the ball too... having the runners work on blocking, tackling, hand placement works for both sides... It's a lot about understanding where your help is Mang: it's important that the approach be the same week in and week out Q: about the record, how badly do you need to win? MAn: need to take one game at a time... take care of this week... That was it, fellas. The End. Nothing learned really, sorry. The whole thing was about 10 minutes tops... couldn't hear most of the questions either, but Mangini was offering nothing up as usual.
Weird there were no questions about the QB position, unless that was what all the joking was about at the beginning. Maybe there was some kind of understanding beforehand that he'd answer any question except that one. It just seemed kind of odd that no one even went near it.
When he's gone we won't be able to remember anything about him except the boxing movies and Sesame Street. I can remember Bill Parcells vividly and even Walt Michael fairly well. I remember almost nothing about Rich Kotite though.
I'm not sure I'll even cover these interviews anymore, that's how worthless they are. The guy gives away snowballs in January.
Completely agree 227..... You could throw me in a fat-suit and let the press loose on me, and I could give the exact answers he does....
The one thing I'd like to add is that if Mangini is feeling any pressure over the Pennington thing, he sure as hell doesn't look like it. He was relaxed, jovial, smiling (even laughing) and in general, in a terrific mood. Honestly, by his demeanor you'd have thought he was 5-1 instead of 1-5. It honestly looks like the Pennington controversy is the furthest thing from his mind. No sign of any quandry or pressure to make any kind of decision whatsoever.
Yeah. Somoas and tagalongs are my favorite. I can inhale whole boxes of those things. A lot of people like thin mints -- not me. I think the Girl Scouts should have a fund raising Cookie Eating contest. I would so enter.
see i hate how hes laughing and in a good mood at a time like this, cause you like to see heart and passion and anger and all those things, but at the very least he is calm and composed at a time like this. i mean, if we continue to lose, calm and composure dont mean shit.. but if things turn around, at some point or another, maybe this could end up being one of his strong points, staying cool under all the pressure of being a coach of a 1-5 ny sports team
The second Pennington throws a pick to Schlegal, is the second Mangini needs to yank his ass out of the game
No the last thing we need is a coach that is still thinking of last weeks game, a coach with a fan's mentality will never last in this league, hell even most fans can't take being bitchy and moany all the time which is why bad teams don't have full stadiums, it would be too stressful. You guys are taking way too much out of coach conerences, and this isn't giving Mangini a benefit of a doubt but this things are always 100% bullshit
His press conferences suck. i am disgusted listening to him. Just get a better gameplan and make better playcalls and stfu. I have become disinterested in what he says.
Yeah, Jetcane, that pretty well sums it up. It's almost like, why even bother listening to any of it. Chad's picked up on this also... canned snippets and memorized sound bytes. The Jets shouldn't even waste their time showing up, in fact. Prop up a cardboard Chad on the podium and no matter what question gets asked, you push a button and the tape recorder that says: "We're looking for consissency. Consissency is the key. That, and putting the team in a position to win."
I won't even remember his Sesame Street performance! Yes, it was that bad. Dorothy the Goldfish has a better stage presence.
