Ball boys do not become nfl football coaches. A guy who washes cars for a living is not "trained' as the next CEO of a billion dollar corporation. A taxi driver cannot be "groomed" into a world class pilot. Some random dude packing bags at a grocery store can not be "molded" into a heart surgeon for a major hospital. Well then, the question must be raised...... How did Eric mangini get trained, groomed, and molded into a head coach? The answer is quite simple, He didn't, for he is no more than a lousy, backgroud actor better-suited munching with tony soprano then running a football organization. Let me just make one thing clear, football coaches are human, hence why ALL COACHES show emotion during a game. But.... Eric Mangini?? He shows no emotion, EVER!!! and why is that?? Because he tries to act on the sidelines so hard like he belongs in the nfl when clearly he knows deep in his head and heart that he is in way over his head. Only the GREATS can afford walking the sidelines with a swagger that is powerful enough to transmit what is expected of the players. This does not include you mangini, you are no more than a below-average 23-24 in three years as head coach. What exlcludes you from getting giddy over a first down, or pissed at a stupid turnover, What gives you the right to walk around as if you know more than everyone? What makes you too GREAT of a coach to be seen hollering at player for missing his assignment? IF TOM FRICKEN COUGLIN RUNS UP AND DOWN THE SIDELINE CONGRATULATING PLAYERS FOR TOUCH DOWNS AND YELLING AT HIS STAR RECIEVER FOR A STUPID PENALTY, AND ALL THIS AFTER WINNING THE SUPERBOWL, THEN MANGINI, what makes you too great of a coach to do the same? Im sorry, Eric, I've forgotten, your an actor, not a coach.
Except he took his job as a ball boy because he was young and wanted to get his foot into the door of the NFL business, and was later recognized for his potential as a football coach. This whole thread is built on dumb analogies.
So a bartender can't play for the Eagles, and a grocery clerk can't lead the Rams to a Super Bowl title.......... Larry Fitzgerald used to be a ball boy..... Case closed, and close this thread
not when the role he is trying so desperately hard to play is that of a "Genius Head Coach TOO good to show emotion" And the mans resume is hollow beyond belief. He resided over the worst defense the patriots have had during this "dynasty" era of theirs, and was hired after one year at the helm.
my point is that mangini is not a head football coach. I dont mean to be raining on everyone's inspirational dreams. Heck mangini is a primary example that anything is indeed possible, no matter how qualified you actually are. My main point here is that this individual case, is a clear example that more often than not, if you are not qualified for something, you will fail. Im sorry that eric is not the exception to the rule
Today's loss was a showcase of poor coaching. Not just Mangini, but the entire staff. The preparation, the contigent planning, the play-calling, the clock management -- all poor. Mangini looks lost at his press conferences. He looks like he's pulled quotes from Herm Edwards and Rich Kotite. Enough. I really wanted Mangini to succeed. Even after last season, I though he could turn the Jets around. I don't believe that anymore. This team consistantly under-achieves. It has more to do with the coaching philosophy than anything else. This team needs an attitude change.
the problem with Mangini is that he isn't as smart or tactical as Bill Belichick so all he can do is try and impersonate him. if he is stoic and calm, hopefully they'll think he's brilliant too, just like Bill. unfortunately, left to his own accord when he has to make sound strategic decisions, Mangini can't, because he has no real experience to fall back on since his entire career has been simply trying to copy his mentor and not actually learn from him and develop his own persona.
Mangini got hired by BB to be the boss's pet. They went to the same college so that way the boss could stay stupid shit like, "Hey, do they still have that bar on Third Street? Man, I used to get so wasted there." He was the pet and then the other teams hired away all of BB's other assistants and he was forced to give his pet a real job. Then the pets friend at the Jets thought it would be super awesome to hire your BFF to work for you and the rest is history.
