Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Chargers are listening to offers for veteran wide receiver Eric Parker........ Nice pick up for depth, or actually starting slot receiver..... what do you guys think? :shit::up:
I agree The Jets have several interesting young WR's who haven't had a chance to prove what they can, or can't do. Pass
Maybe if Parker was good, I agree that Stuckey,Smith and Henry and the others should get a chance. Coles+Cotch are 1,2 the rest is still open.
Stuckey, Smith and Henry need to have a chance before we dump them. I think one of the three will step up. Hoping Stuckey snatches the job up.
Due to his injury last year I never got to see Stuckey play. My friend said he reminds him of Santana Moss. Good comparison?
I'd offer a 6th rounder at best --- nothing lower. The guy has to be worth a 6th rounder. Just turned 29yrs old. Not bad.
Not the worst idea in the world. A solid veteran WR in the 3 spot while we develop Stuckey and Smith as possible heirs to Coles' and Parker's respective thrones. Remember that this will be Stuckey's first ever NFL game time, doesn't exactly auger well for his prospects. Smith is still learning the trade alltogether, and can't be counted on consistently. Both of these guys have high upside, but have not yet shown the stuff that breeds confidence. 1. Coles 2. Cotch 3. ?Vet? 4. Stuckey 5. Smith Not a bad stable. I wouldn't mind getting a vet like Parker on the cheap. If one of our big 2 goes down, it would be nice to know we have someone dependable to back him up. Sort of like our version of Troy Brown. Parker will never wow, but he can get the job done. I'd say a 7th with conditional 6th possibility should be our offer.
Forget it. Just realized in the trade we'd probably have to pick up his contract at about $2 million per year. Never mind.
I don't think so at all. Stuckey has good speed, but he isn't a blazer like Moss was. The real difference between Stuckey and "Sideline Santana" is, Stuckey, often to his detriment, makes great catches in traffic. Moss always looked to not get hit. I really believe if Stuckey can stay healthy, and that's a big IF, he will be a major steal.
i disagree, in the limited action i saw stuckey in he did remind me a little of s.moss, also, how can you say stuckey makes great catches in traffic when he's never played in an nfl game, are you basing it on his limited preseason action or his college career? e.parker for a 6th rounder in a heartbeat
No, he reminded me more on Coles, tough little guy with great hands and very good concentration, even in traffic, but while having good speed not close to the speedster Moss is.
There's no reason to trade for Parker. We have good depth at the WR position right now. But if Coles were to get injured I would then like to see the Jets go after a guy like Parker.
That's crazy. Did you watch the Jets last year when Brad Smith was forced to start? If the Jets want to have any chance this year, they can't do it with Smith being their fall back or backup wideout. We don't even know what Chansi Stuckey is yet, because he hasn't even played a full season, and Marcus Henry isn't likely to make an immediate impact. Compare the Jets depth to the Patriots depth at wideout last year. I'm not even talking about the talent, just the depth. Stallworth was their third receiver, and look what happens. By no means am I saying that Parker is going to produce like Stallworth, but it's nice to keep your options open behind your two starters.
I think I like this thinking. A case can be made for getting Parker by considering the following; 1)He is a veteran receiver, with the injuries that Coles has had the past two seasons, I'm skittish about the Jets sticking in Smith or Stuckey as a starting receiver if Coles gets hurt during the season. When Smith or Justin McCareins had to rest Coles last season it wasn't pretty. Parker could give the Jets a quality threat. 2) Brian Schottenheimer worked with him in San Diego, and could play well off the familiarity. 3) Parker has demonstrated himself a dependable pass catchers over the last five years. 4) gives the Jets another punt returner (depth). Parker was San Diego's primary punt returner from 2004 - 2006. 5) The Chargers are asking for a pick in the final three rounds, and Jets could potentially have two draft picks coming to them from the Jonathan Vilma and Dewayne Robertson trades.
