After thinking about it for a while, im starting to think that our loss really means that this years team is amazing. Simply thinking about it our entire team played an absolutely horrific game. Our offense was in shambles, our defense failed again and again on 3rd downs, penalties buried us, and we were missing key players like Holmes/Pool/Greene for much of the game. And yet we were able to go toe to toe with a team that is easily top 4 in the nfl, probably top 2 and almost beat them. Hell a couple of questionable calls and we would of won this game. So if the Jets on their absolute worst fricken day imaginable (lets be honest its been quite a while since we saw a jets team as a whole look that terrible) can go head to head with one of the best teams in the nfl, its a scary thought of what this team can do on a good day. Just getting our key players back alone would of probably made us win that game, I think that combined with any other officiating crew in the nfl, and us cutting out just a fraction of the stupid shit from monday and wow this team really is something . I can honestly say im more fired up than ever after that game, we got something fucking special.
put the pipe down and step away from the computer. Our offense needs work and it starts with the coordinator and quarterback....Lets win first and then we can talk about being special.
I can't wait till we can stop talking about this loss. Whether it be over the top negative reaction or rationalization (I.e. This thread) next game please! Thankfully only 4 more days
dude .. your grasping at straws here my man .. just accept the loss, and enjoy the game Sunday .. just a suggestion of course .. it wasn't the officials, it wasn't the thunder storm prior to the game (as someone suggested), it wasn't all the talk, it wasn't hard knocks ... bottom line as Ray Ray would say .. Your team just didn't play well .. that's all .. Nothin from the last game is gonna carry over or have no impact what happens this Sunday, none ..Enjoy
Its completely true though. How many games do we play this season tougher than Mondays? If we played like that every single week (which was fucking terrible) we would make the playoffs, even if it were via wildcard. And that would be playing absolutely AWFUL every single week. Factor in getting the big guns back, not having the worst officiating crew in the nfl for OUR playstyle, and fixing alot of mistakes and I dont think what I said is off in the slightest. We proved on our worst day we can go head to head with anybody.
1 pt loss to the Ravens is still a loss. It's definitely not the end of the world though. That team scored 391 points last season and they added Anquan Boldin to the mix this year. The Pats may not be as easily containable as the Ravens were but most teams are going to struggle to score at all against our defense.
The point was with all the things wrong we were able to go the distance with one of the best teams out there
Who said giving up 10 points is a failure ? Our defense failed on 3rd downs. Thats what I said and that was what happened.
I suppose your right, and I do believe this will be an outlier in the grand scheme of things. We could have just as easily been blown out though.
The one part I do agree with is we will not face a tougher opponent than we faced on Monday night. Now that doesn't ensure anything other than our hardest game is behind us and we will have to play a lot smarter and better to reach the expectations that this season has. The only thing that has dampened my enthusiasm is the SOJF nonsense that has invaded this board since losing the opener.
I agree with you here. But I don't agree with the "what ifs"...the Jets played sloppy and deserved the calls they were penalized for. And saying "what if" the Jets had this player or that player means nothing because you have to play with what you have.
i dont get why you all are bashing the op, hes using the same rationalization that we all used this offseason. "sanchez was horrible last season, and we still made it to the afc championship game. just imagine when he improves" ... hes just applying the same concept to the game, which was my immediate reaction to the game yes we lost and that sucks, but we collectively played about as poorly as ive seen this team play and we were still in it with a drive for a fg to win at the end ... and this wasnt like the flop against the bills last year, the ravens are a very good team
I disagree with you, the toughest opponent is always the next. There are no gimmes in the NFL as we found out against Buffalo, Jacksonville and Atlanta (sans Michael Turner) last season. If the Pats game wasn't big enough it almost becomes a must win in week two because Miami seems to have our number. The schedule will even out but starting out 0-3 would be a disaster of epic proportions.
Not to mention starting out 0-3 could sink playoff hopes, no matter how easy the schedule gets after the bye week.
The Jets had two 3-game losing streaks last season and got in, admittedly with a lot of luck. I don't think 0-3 would be the end of the world. It's obviously not ideal though.
