Not to re-hash old news, but so many people hated the picks of revis and harris last year because of what we had to give up to get them. Now it's pretty obvious both have turned out to be good players who should start on this defense for a long time, but I think there's something else to this - Most people didn't look at CB and ILB as our biggest needs last year around draft time. CB was a definite concern but almost everyone would have said Dline was a bigger priority and probably an offensive threat, and no one really recognized our lack of talent and depth at ILB. Tanny had unbelievable foresight in picking CB and ILB because we are weak enough this year to pick up the same two positions that we drafted last year and it would be completely legit. I'm not saying we will or that we should, but if our first two picks were CB (Rogers-Cromartie or Mckelvin) and ILB (Lofton) in the second, I not only wouldn't be surprised, I wouldn't be upset either. I think it says a tremendous amount how aware of everything on the team our FO was.
I think this is an excellent post. Tanny moved around in order to get their guys, people who filled dire need positions. I'm sure this year will be no different in that they will end up drafting excellent players who they know will help the Jets win. Rome wasn't built overnight.
Last year turned out to be a weak draft class, w/ alot of difference of opinions on players(hell many had Leon Hall rated above Revis). We decided that 2 players that WERE elite, filled needs AND fit our scheme culd be had by moving around...so we did so. This year, the draft is alot deeper. We still have alot of needs, one being an elite talent. It'd be wise IMO to take a BPA approach at every spot to ensure overall depth and talent.
Kurt is right we need elite talent. Whens the last time we had a real real playmaker someone everyone feared. Santana moss was the closet and he wasnt even that good
