Everyone on this board pretty much knows that I am a fan of taking a QB at 4, but that DOESN'T mean I am against going in a different direction. So let's talk about some of the guys the Jets may like in the second or third round as a QB that can be the possible future at QB. Brodie Croyle- If it weren't for this guys injury filled past he may have been considered a late first round guy. Charlie Whitehurst- This is a guy I don't know too much about. All I know is, is that he is a guy that has all the tools just didn't have the stats. Omar Jacobs- This was a guy who dominated his sophmore year and played a little below that his junior year. If you have more QB's you would like to discuss please add them to the list. I personally would like to see us go after Croyle in Round 3. Our second rounder would be too early as it is just a few picks after the first round.
I like Croyle a lot in round 3 or Omar Jacobs in round 3. I think Jacobs has more potential but also much more of a chance to be a bust, but Croyle can be a solid QB. Whitehurst I don't love, he has a lot of talent, just doesn't use it. A couple of second-day guys I like are Drew Olson of UCLA and Bret Basanez of Northwestern.
Drew Olson has a pretty good year this past season didn't he? I have to start looking up info on him...
Here's CBS's Sportsline Rankings of the Top 10 quarterbacks for the 2006 draft. http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/draft/prospects I think this list is kinda old though, they have D.J. Shockley, Brodie Croyle, and Brett Basanez over Vince Young.
I love Drew Olson. His stats last year: RAT - 161.59, YDS - 3,198, TD - 34, CMP% - 64.0 and only 6 Interceptions. This playing in the Pac-10, the same conference Mr. Leinart plays in. Not saying he's on Leinarts level, but its interesting.
If that's the case then what do you call tom brady? 6th rd pick..am sure people were calling him a 2nd tier qb during that draft. The point am trying to make is you just never know who will be a 1st tier 2nd tier player until they are drafted and are in camp to show what they can in fact do. Game film will give you a good idea but in the end luck plays into it as well. So I wouldn't call "tier 2 qb's" lifelong backups.
that's fine. you draft them knowing that but hoping you may get that diamond in the rough, ala Tom Brady. nobody is saying these guys are going to be studs, just worth taking a chance on during the second day. thank you for attempting to educate us with your football knowledge, thinking we did not know what the general rule of thumb is in regards to second tier QB's, but perhaps you should attempt to participate in the conversation in regards to what it is, that being which of these QB's is worth taking, instead of being contrary and irrelevent.
I like Omar Jacobs, hes very balanced and a liittle underrated. He'll probably be there until our early 3rd round pick but could be taken later in the 2nd round
nah we dont want a man of his dumbness, dont forget his score of 11 on that test, besides the fact that he steps on people
They were talking about this very topic today on NFL Radio. The commentators seemed to think that if Croyle was there at 2.16, the Dolphins may well take him (They theorized that since the Dolphins were interested in bringing Young in for a workout, that they want to inject a youthful QB next to what will be a bit of a question mark in Culpepper). Basically, they think Croyle will go somewhere DURING round 2 and possibly not even slip to 3. If that's the case, and IF the Jets were high on Croyle, would you be upset if they took him at 2.04? In my mind, there is no 'too soon' if you like a player, only 'Oh Crap, Too late'. Any thoughts? -C Rex http://www.chrisrex.com
