I'm not going to ignore the fact that there are some serious holes on this team (RT, WR), but I think there's plenty of reason to believe we can have a successful season and finish in at least 6th, so long as a few important things go right. We've got an adequate front seven and assuming we've upgraded at least a little bit at the safety position, we should have a top five secondary. I believe we'll make the playoffs if these three obvious points go well. 1. Sanchez has to have a decent season, he doesn't have to be stellar, he just has to significantly limit his mistakes. 2. Tebow has a reasonable impact. Again, I'm not expecting him to rush for 1000 yards and score 10 TD's this year, but if he makes a few big plays when it counts, it may well be enough to help us squeak out a few close games. 3. One of Greene/Powell/Mcknight/Hill/White has a breakout year. If just one of these guys can exceed expectations it might be the push our Offense needs to win some close games. Looking at the schedule, even if we lose to the teams we're expected to lose to (Pitt, SF, Hou, SD) and beat the teams we should (Indy, St. Louis, Jax, Ari, Tenn) we'll be 5-4. If we go 3-3 in our division and beat Seattle we'd finish at 9-7, which the past few seasons has been enough to earn the 6th seed. I didn't mean to type so much, I'm just excited about the season and trying to look on the bright side.
Minute is over. AAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH, AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH, AAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH, AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
I tried to dig into your team this offseason and pull all you guys down to a reasonable level of what to expect from the Jets this season, but man... you guys just kept going, all the way down to the "this season is over" and "we're doomed" threads. Now, the pessimism on here is killing me! I think that is a little extreme. The Jets (and same for the Bills) aren't one of the great teams. But they're also not one of the worst. Both are about middle of the pack. You guys shouldn't be so pessimistic. Yes, the Jets roster as it looks now looks like shit on paper, but Rex has been smart enough to overcome personnel deficiencies in the past. I think he will be able to once again design a pretty good defense (not elite, but good), and as long as the Jets stick to the run (mixed with play action) you guys should be a tough team to beat. Just dont throw the load on Sanchez. Pick your heads up. The preseason is supposed to be a mess!
Wildcard spots in the AFC will be harder to come by this year IMO. I think either Pittsburgh or Baltimore will get one of them. ...anyway, I think it'll take 10 wins this year to get the other spot.
Something notable- We havent used play action once this preseason I believe, which is one of Sanchez’s best skills and something I believe will be used in the regular season a lot, especially to get the ball down field and also help out with weaknesses (or just Hunter) on the OL.
easy to say when your team has nowhere to trend but up and our team has appeared to trend backwards. a lot will happen between now and opening day and I'm not proclaiming the season dead by any means....but i do have legitimate concerns at some key positions on offense.
we also haven't given any help to hunter in the form of a t.e or r.b chipping. this preseason hs been 1 on 1 drills in live action.once the game planning starts the offense will look alot better
These are Jets fans you're talking about. Whoever scores the first TD for the Jets will instantly be going to the hall of fame. That is until they drop a pass or fumble in which case they should be cut. I believe the mistakes are the biggest factor over the course of the 16 game season... more so than Hunter. Whether Hunter is in there or not, the Jets offense is not fluid enough to where it can withstand the volume of stupid penalties its been comitting going back to last season. I know a lot of people here rail against the idea of field goals but to be quite honest with how good the Jets defense is it really wouldn't hurt if the offense was able to pull out one or two long drives per game (6 minutes or more) that end in a field goal. Not exactly exciting but the fact that the defense gets a breather will help this team tremendously. If the Jets can find a way to put up an average of 24 points per game then the Jets will have a very good season.
Mario Williams makes Buffalo a much better team? Um no, not one guy. All this Buffalo suddenly being good crap irritates me. You still suck, Fitz is as bad as Sanchez and Fred is a flash in the pants. Your secondary is weak and Steve J is a once in a while Wide out. Who cares what Buffalo fans think, leave.
They do have a good D line but I agree that their offense is just as questionable as ours. Our defense will be better though.
I agree. I think the emotional distress and piss poor attitudes of many fans here is unwarranted. It's like a bunch of whiny teenagers complaining about their curfew. That's why I believe Jets fans are the worst fans in the history of sports. There can't be nearly as many people like this on Bills or Phins message boards. This is why I can respect rational fans from other teams. At least they are defending / supporting their team. Looking at the top 10 threads in the section makes me ashamed to be a Jets fan.
