This should get the haters riling quick enough..haha.

"Free agent safety Jim Leonhard is unsigned and still rehabbing a torn patellar tendon, but he says it’s a certainty that he’ll be ready to play by the start of training camp — and a good chance that the training camp he’ll be in will be the Jets’.

Leonhard told Jenny Vrentas of the Star-Ledger that he’s “getting close” to being healthy enough to do a workout for an NFL team, and he has “no doubt” he’ll be on the field when camps open in August. Leonhard has played the last three seasons for the Jets, and he believes he could stay there.

“There’s still a very good possibility it could be the best situation for me,” Leonhard said. “You never know. Things could change in the next two weeks with the draft; things could be better here, better there. It’s just hard to try to predict the future, and that’s been the hardest part.”

Leonhard started the first 13 games of the season for the Jets last year before being lost to the injury, and when the Jets signed safety LaRon Landry, General Manager Mike Tannenbaum made a point of saying that Landry’s arrival didn’t close the door on Leonhard’s return.

As a longtime favorite of Jets head coach Rex Ryan, Leonhard likely has a spot on the roster as soon as he’s completely healthy. What isn’t known is whether the Jets will be confident enough in Leonhard’s ability to stay healthy that they’ll offer him the kind of contract he’s seeking. But Leonhard sounds optimistic."

Why not bring him back? He knows the system and hasn't been a problem when he's healthy. He's limited physically but is a definite asset to the Safety rotation, and they will rotating a buncha guys there this year.

You will find no hate from me.

I would welcome him back in a heartbeat.

Staying on the field has been his only downfall.

I'd also be happy to have Leonhard back. I would've rather upgraded on him, but we need another free safety in our rotation and he's at least as good as anyone else left on the market.

Two freak injuries in back to back years for Jimmy. Love the guy, and would be very happy to have him back.

Leonhard is better than any other available FA out there even if he didnt already know the system and have good chemistry with the team.

That, and he'd be the only person who we could count on to catch a punt without holding our breath.

Just having out there to fair catch punts makes me happy. Jets struggled so bad last season in this area.

If we can add a FS in the draft, bring back Leonhard allthewhile drafting a passrusher rd 1 I think the D is set for a good year.

I say bring him back as we are very thin at safety, particularly FS. The contract he gets should reflect his proneness towards injury, though.

Revis needs to be our punt returner in all crucial regular season games/situations and all playoff games. Problem solved. Not sure why they don't do this.

Also Leonhard is looking more and more attractive with the dearth of any form of life at FS.....anywhere....this year.

i like leonhard a lot. i hope he's back with the jets. but they had better have a decent insurance policy. i don't think he can be expected to make it through a full season. but i'd like to see him strong for a playoff run.

We have some depth at safety now. Maybe we can work him in less snaps to reduce the workload on that knee. Does anyone know whether it was the same knee that got busted this year as last? Or was it each knee?

(If it's the latter, that really, really, really sucks for Jimmy.)

I htink....I know that you guys overrate this guy tremendously but what other options do we have I suppose.....remember, Leonhard was part, a major part of the worst safety tandem in the fuckin league. Oh boy

If he is willing to give us the Bryan Thomas discount and come back for the vet minimum then sure bring him back. Otherwise, it is time to move on.

I want Jim back. Our defense is noticeably worse when he's off the field, I don't think it can hurt us since we're thin at the position anyway.

Probably because Rex doesn't want his best defensive player tee'd up by the mental patients player on the opposing team's punt coverage unit. They'd all be gunning to put him out of the game.

Westhoff is barely able to get Cromartie on the field to KR.

Would add solid depth at a weak position if he comes at the right price.

I wouldn't mind him coming back, hopefully as a reserve he's too injury prone to be a full time starter at this point.

That's annoying when you do that. The being right thing.

Still, if they're actually stupid enough to try that by giving him a returnable punt in a crucial situation...he'll just fucking go all Devin Hester on them all and put 6 points on the board and the dagger through their heart.

Then Revis will laugh at them mockingly, and hand the ball back to Leonhard.

I mean. He is Revis after all. He's pretty much the perfect human being everywhere on a football field.
