NFL | More on M. Leinart's Pro Day results Sun, 2 Apr 2006 19:12:18 -0700 ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports USC QB Matt Leinart displayed some athleticism by turning in a 37-inch vertical jump at his Pro Day Sunday, April 2. He completed 36 of 45 passes by unofficial count, with three drops by his receivers. His accuracy was good, not great, and his arm strength was adequate. It appeared, at times, that he aimed the ball a bit too much and some balls sailed on him. Leinart conceded afterwards that he probably pressed a little. "In situations like these," Leinart said, "I think you tend to overdo it. You know, you try to throw a ball too hard, and it goes high, or you try to be too fine with your passes. I think I started off too tight."
NFL | More on W. Justice's Pro Day results Sun, 2 Apr 2006 19:09:47 -0700 ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports USC OT Winston Justice, who still must resolve some old character issues for NFL scouts before the NFL Draft, was the player who inarguably helped himself the most at his Pro Day Sunday, April 2. In the vertical jump, Justice did 39 inches, an incredible mark for such a big man. He registered 38 "repetitions" in the bench press. Justice pulled up toward the end of the 40-yard drill, clutching his right hamstring, but one AFC scout still said he clocked him at 5.03 seconds. In the pass-block drills, Justice looked very agile and naturally athletic, despite the sore hamstring. "Happy with what I did and happy it's over," said Justice, who missed time during his career because of two off-field incidents, one of which included pulling a pellet gun on a USC student. "We'll just have to see where it goes from here." NFL | More on R. Bush's Pro Day results Sun, 2 Apr 2006 19:09:22 -0700 ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports USC RB Reggie Bush posted an eye-opening 40½-inch vertical jump, performed a very solid 24 repetitions on the standard 225-pound bench press, and was clocked in the 40-yard sprint in 4.37-4.41 seconds, according to a few scouts attending his Pro Day workout Sunday, April 2. The electronic times for Bush were a little quicker, in the 4.33-4.37 range. "Probably not the absolute perfect day that everybody wants to have at one of these things," Bush told ESPN.com after the nearly four hours of drills. "But I felt good. I feel like I came in here today as the No. 1 guy, and I think I'm leaving the same way. So, in that sense, it's pretty satisfying. Now I can kick back and go to the beach for a few days. For me, well, I think I'm walking out of here a winner for the day."
Cutler was 41 of 45... and Leinart has much better receivers than he does... so something must be up with his throws
In a pro day, it really doesn't matter. Comparing Cutler with Leinart is like comparing some scrub to a hall of famer. Ok, maybe not but I am not a Cutler fan
Cutler, plain & simple, is the best QB prospect in some time. Land him & the Jets will be contenders for a long time......
Next year with Cutler Super Bowl guaranteed my god i can't believe the jets are even in a position to be able to have a chance at drafting him when he should so easily go #1 overall no matter what draft he was in even if it was the drafts that Eli Manning and Carson Palmer were getting drafted. But seriously folks, does anyone really care what Leinart did today? Is it really something that will have a huge affect on what you think of him? If he had completed 4 more passes, would you suddenly think it would turn him into a much better NFL player? Just ask yourself these questions.
I couldn't agree more..How can you not take a QB that's being compared to Farve...with that said I wouldn't be upset if we took Leinart but I'd be pissed off if we took Young. I just don't see Young being that good in the pros, IMO
So, Leinart's excuse was that there was pressure, and that's why he sucked? What would happen to him in the NFL? Thsi guy..... at one point I thought he was a safe bet to be at least an adequate starter in the NFL.... now, I have my doubts. Perfect weather, his own recievers, and he starts sailing balls because he was pressing? RED FLAG. Can you say Losman?
No, I don't care what he did today and I really don't think most FOs care either, unless he were to have gotten injured. I think most teams know what they want in the draft and are now just trying to figure out how to get it! He could've completed 10 passes and still go in the top 3 or 4.
Thank you Hot Rod, thank you. I honestly just needed to hear someone say that so I didn't think I was going insane.
If Matt Leinart does not succeed as an NFL QB, it will almost certainly not be because he can't handle pressure. The man was almost flawless in three different games during his college career with a National Championship on the line. I'd say that shows a lot more about how a QB handles pressure than some workout.
Did anyone hear who attended for the Jets at the SC pro day? ESPN said four head coaches, but not sure if that included Mangini. I think we have a separate workout for Leinart on 4/19, so maybe that's when our top brass would attend. I doubt we would be in a position to take anyone at 4 from SC other than Leinart.
I honestly would not mind if we traded down to get Justice, I think he is going to become an elite player in the NFL.
Um.... he basicaly admitted, or at least blamed his poor pro day on "pressing too much". Sorry, but this is a red flag for me.... can he handle losing and being a Jet for a year or two? I have my doubts...... now. I don't purport to know.... no one can, and if they say otherwise, they are fulla crap. I'm just saying that my confidence in him got somewhat rattled. Mentally, I think I like both Young and Cutler better than him in terms of handling pressure. But, it's a moot point..... only time will tell.
He played in basically three national championships and won two, enough said, he can handle pressure. Not only that, he was a superstar in the 2nd highest media market in the United States. I wouldn't call his pro day poor by any means; if anything, he showed his athleticism by the vertical jump.
Those are big time red flags. Haven't we seen enough of balls sailing and "adequate" arm strength. If the guy isn't going to be a great player don't use the 4th pick on him. This is not the next Carson Palmer.
This is what Jeff Fisher said. http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/14250364.htm You do realize that anything anyone with one of the top 3 picks says about any of the top prospects will be positive. They have every reason to push the value of every player up before the draft. It's called bluffing. Now they may in fact love him but saying they do now doesn't really mean anything. By the way saying arm strength isn't a problem isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the guys arm.
As specualted Leinart is not a sure pick franchise Qb. You can say the same for Cutler and Young. Thats why you stay at 4 and take the best available player. Wiiliams,Hawk, Ferguson. But i still feel you can get a starting caliper off tackle later in the 1st or 2nd rd. Lets see what they do about signing any o linemen in the next few weeks.
