NFL | Leinart fires agent Steinberg Mon, 10 Apr 2006 21:05:24 -0700 ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports USC QB Matt Leinart has fired agent Leigh Steinberg, according to sources with the NFL Players Association. Leinart filed the necessary paperwork with the players' union Monday, April 10, the sources said, and now has a five-day waiting period before he can hire another contract representative. hmy: Maybe now Leigh won't come out and say "My client wants a signing bonus of $30 million."
All I know is that he should not be going with Rosenhaus or Posten. If I were Leinart I'd want Condon as my agent.
He's going Condon, you can take it to the bank. My feeling? Steinberg and Leinart have made the rounds, or did I should say, saying they'd be happy to play whereever they're taken. I don't buy it. Leinart wants to play where he wants to play, and I can't blame him. That may or may not be solely the Jets, but I have a feeling there are teams where he does not want to play, and Steinberg wasn't willing to talk to the teams about it. I specifically remember seeing the 2 of them talking about the Saints saying they'd play there, and you can tell the look on Leinart's face was, "who am I kidding?". This was all before the Saints signed Brees.
Condon's not scared to make everyone hate him, that's for sure, so if Leinart wants that done for the Jets or another team, he's his man.
Do you really think we'd get a chance at Leinart without trading up? He doesn't have a choice of who drafts him, and someone would need to affect a trade in order to nab him -- and I sure as hell hope it isn't us -- I don't really want this guy.
Why is he a sore loser? Is it becuase he said he thought USC was the better team when they lost to Texas? To me that was frustration after losing only his 2nd game of his college career, which just so happened to be the championship game. Besides that how can you call him a sore loser having only lost 1 other game? And he can fire his agent if he wants to what's wrong with that? If he doesn't agree with with what his agent is saying or doing why would he want the guy to represent him?
Noone knows what went on between them. That could have been the reason However, I know this. Steinberg represented Leinart, and Leinart was using a company called CAA (I forget what it stands for) for marketing type stuff. Well Mr. Condon moved over to CAA and took his clients. Now, Leinart HAD to choose (fire someone). He had to let go of CAA or Steinberg due to a conflict of interest. He chose to fire Steinberg.
Maybe he's a white supremacist and realized his agent was Jewish. Does that constitute him as a dick?
wow before the draft -- wonder if thsat will scare some teams -- that is a fat chunk of change to lose before the draft -- like in jerry maguire when he gets fired the day before the draft -- $$$$$ not!
Yowser. Not even sure this comment can be interpreted as sarcasm. I won't stereotype your comment by where you hail from, but I think you need to clean it up a bit. I think JetsIn2004 brings up a good point about CAA (which I think is Creative Artists Agency) and Condon's new association with CAA. I have a feeling if Leinart drops to #4, the Jets will take him because that's a pretty far drop for the top-rated quarterback to take. But I'm hoping he gets picked before the Jets make their selection, because I don't want him. Now I don't have any insider information on what type of guy he really is, but I would say from a distance this isn't the type of guy that Mangini wants on his team. I think Chad is, but then there's the health issues.
This statement often confuses me. What constitutes as an NFL arm? If you think arm strength is what makes a pro calliber quarterback then you're right. But, in my opinion I'd rather have a guy that makes smart throws rather than one that can simply huck the ball downfield. Patrick Ramsey has good arm strength, but would you start him over a healthy Chad Pennington? I'd hope not.
