As soon as the Pats lost blocking TE Graham, they grabbed blocking TE Brady. If the jets repeat Boobway's error of 2 years ago (Jolley and Nugent for a #1) to get a non-blocking TE like Olson, they have nobody but themselves to blame. GET SOME RUN DEFENDERS--teams have been running over us since the chiefs showed everyone how in game one of 2005!
Yeah, the reason Belichik likes TE's is because they give flexibility on the field. That flexibility comes from their ability to function as either a receiver or a blocker on any given play. TE's in New England's spread offense are like the OLB's in a 3-4: they put pressure on whatever the weakpoint of the defense is. If Olsen was a strong blocker I'd be all for him on the 25. Of course if he was a strong blocker he'd be going on the 12 to 14.
The Pats took Ben Watson in first round also. Ran a great time at the combine, wasnt a star in college, kinda sounds familiar hm........ Stop showing your inferior complex and following what the Pats do. Were the New York Jets no the New England Patriots
"inferior complex" do you mean inferiority? "were the New York Jets" do you mean "we're" sounds like you have a grammar "complex"
No. He meant to say inferiority complex, we're, and not. And we have to worry about the Pats... we play them twice a year.
Watson was projected as an early 2nd round pick and the Pats took him with the last pick of the first round. It was a small reach. As to the differences between Watson and Olsen: Watson is just a lot stronger than Olsen and the Pats probably decided that they could turn him into a two-way TE if they spent some time on it. I'd have a completely different take on Olsen if I thought he was coachable into being a good blocker. He's a flyer and his hands are just okay. To me that suggests he's not going to be all that valuable in our offense.
I ahte when people don't know wha the deal was and then criticize it. We moved down 21 slots, ot our K, got a vet TE, got a RB and it allowed us to move up to take Kerry Rhodes. It was a GREAT DEAL for the Jets.
Actually, he was right with the way he said it, except he forgot Rhodes.. It really was Rhodes, Nugent and Jolley for Fabian Washington.... Come on... who got the better end of that deal (you were right saying that)
I can't see how you can say it was a great deal. We moved down because of a player we received. Said player is no longer with the team. The fact that we got good players as a result of the trade doesn't make the trade good. The trade itself is based on the player we received and the picks (not the players selected we received). We were fleeced.
Yes it was great we took a bust CB which meant we had to unload picks in this draft to pick another CB. All that draft did for us was allow us to get value for Rhodes which we gave up yesterday in spades. It would have been far better if we didn't make the deal and wasted value by using our third on Rhodes instead of on Puaha.
Actually, I think teams have been running over us since 2003 or 2004 at the latest. At least I can't remember the last time we could stop the run on anybody.
They were good against the run in 2004 and have been really poor against it in 2003, 2005 and 2006. They kind of cycled back and forth between being ok and mediocre between 1997 and 2001.
We got lucky with the picks. Saying that we knew what we would be getting when we drafted Kerry Rhodes is like saying the Patriots knew that Tom Brady would be a HOF QB when they drafted him. We initiated the trade because the Jets felt that Jolley had value worth sliding from the first round to the second round. The value turned out to be nonexistant.
ny junc will never admit his uncle Terry Dumbway made MANY bad moves--he made the trade because he liked Jolley, not because he anticipated Rhodes would be there in round 4--Jolley was a stellar jet, wasn't he?
